The Tifo

My friend, worm means dragon in Middle English and that's probably what it means here. People have reinterpreted the Lambton creature to what we think of as a worm once the word "worm" stopped meaning dragon which was around the 16th-17th century.

My friend, yes, but a key part of the original story is that the body of the worm kept growing back after being cut up, which suggests more of a serpent like creature than how dragons are typically drawn today.

Just had a mag tell me the Lambton worm story is "f**k all to do with Sunderland "
Also read online countless times that we are copying the mags.
The gift that keeps giving

it's killing them how much attention we've been getting with the signings etc over the summer. now we've won our first game and there's stuff all over about the display etc it's driving them round the bend and ruining the whole only one clerb in the north east narrative they like to shout. they're literally all over any social media post about us. obsessed

i imagine there was some tears when we were first on MOTD. dread to think what state they'll be in next weekend if we beat Burnley. given we'll be all the talk again as promoted sides just don't win games at the beginning of the season let alone consecutive

Love it the club has found it’s identity again literally brings tears to my eyes, them up the road saw money and claim they got their club back for no other reason than that, money. We really do have our club back through clever planning a lot of hard a work, faith in youth and our academy (bit of luck of course) but most importantly the club had a vision stuck with that vision and rode out the mistakes and criticism it’s beautiful to see,

Ha’way the Lads!

It has more to do with Sunderland than the Angel of the North has to do with Newcastle!

Seriously, I hope club marketing team are reading this. Sunderland has always had good support outside of the city and Sunderland historically was in County Durham (which was from the North Bank of the Tees to the South bank of the Tyne)

We should play on that a lot on our marketing and in displays/shirts. If done right, and if we get things right on the pitch thats a powerful fanbase to tap into in the future

Yes, the Worm has the added bonus of body parts that can be reattached so Lambton slays the bugger in the Wear, in a spiked suit of armour to tears the Worm's flesh, so the river washes away the body parts. He gets this advice from a witch, who says once the worm is slain young Lambton must slay the first living thing he sees. He and the faather concoct a plan to release their favourite hound once the worm is vanquished (why not the least favourite?), but Old Lambton gets so excited when the worm is slain he jumps the gun and rushes to see his son.

Thus, the Lambtons were cursed for generations 3x3 (also known as 9), to never die in their beds.
Always thought that's not the worst curse in the world; I've no huge ambition to die in a bed.
Also comes with bonus immortality if you stay in bed.

I thought the story went he found a wyrm and tossed it down a well and the wrym grew into what the folktale was about. Not heard the tale since I was in primary school mind.
