Jack Clarke

He set the world as alight here as anyone else has in the last 10 years, and he’s 24 years old.
That is why he would look back fondly on his time here…and NOT anywhere else.
That was exactly the point that I was making.
Try reading my post properly.

He was fantastic for us and I loved him for that, but he has done nowt at any other club.

He was pretty awful against Birmingham on Friday night as well, although he was far from alone in that respect in an Ipswich shirt. A huge shame to see what's happened to him there but don't ever see it working out for him whilst McKenna is still manager.

Depending on Mundles injury and the fact we could do with another winger albeit on the other side

I'd not be against offering £8/9mill for Clarke to get him back

People forget he played wingback in league one and works his arse off defensively too.

Would be a no brainer, they clearly can't use him and want rid imo

Take out all the foreign players in the game and Clarke would be a Premier League regular, a player that many top clubs would be seriously looking at. The standard of the PL is ridiculously high. It might be an idea to defer judgement on Clarke until Sunderland have finished their first season back in the top flight. Without him having kicked a ball for us, some of our supporters might rate him a little higher.

He was an inside forward for us. Right footed, constantly coming inside and having a shot.

I tell thee, it'd be a relatively safe bet for us if they want to cut their losses.

Plenty fast, one of his main attributes.

Inside forward is different to a winger cutting inside. Ipswich want him to play 10-15 yards in from the touchline, with the fullback providing the width.

We played him on the touchline, got him the ball where he’d then cut inside.

Would he fare any better here now? Over pre season it looked to me as if our wide players are being asked to spend a little more time as inside forwards. Both Adingra and Talbi have been drifting inside more (Not just to shoot like Jack) and Roberts has been doing so too. I suspect we may have tweaked our system a little. Early days and I may be wrong mind. :)

I see both sides the role thing to be honest. Being asked to play slightly narrower (it’s not an entirely different position) shouldn’t have the impact it’s had, at least not for a top player. He’s a one trick pony, albeit he’s mastered that trick, you need more about you to play at the top level.
This. Top players adapt their game to meet new challenges. They must - you can’t expect to be playing the exact same role throughout your career. Players move. But even if they don’t a new manager may have different ideas. Tactics change. And it’s not like Jack was being asked to become a CB.

Jack was brilliant for us. But I’m very happy with Mundle and Adringa.

I think you’re right, I’ve watched them both drift into the middle a lot too.

I don’t think he’d be quick enough to play in our system, he wasn’t slow but didn’t have that real burst of pace. I thought he always struggled against big physical right backs.

It was obvious it would end like this, Harte has a lot to answer for. The lad has been badly advised, some players just find a club they fit in and Clarke found that here. He was advised and took a move to the premier league to a club everyone knew would be coming back down straight away. He’s looked nothing like the player he was here and wouldn’t be surprised if he’s chasing that sort of form for the rest of his career. He will look back as Sunderland time being the pinnacle and if he just stayed he could’ve been on this journey now instead of looking like a squad player at Ipswich who may or may not get promoted.

Very noticeable with Adringa. I felt Pat seemed to be coming inside from a bit deeper, giving him a better angle for a pass.

They've got Mickey Moore on loan from Spurs who is a similar player or at least same position.

Clarke needs to do a Calvert-Lewin and sack his agent for sure. Basically a leach.

Do we think if Clarke had stayed we'd have gotten automatic promotion? Doesn't matter like and Mundle was great early season before his injuries but Clarke was one of the best players in the Championship. Or would we not have got Isidor if he'd stayed? Doesn't matter.

I wouldn't have him back here because the lad deserves to play first team football and I don't think he'd get it here now.
Clarke played two games for us last season. Scored v Cardiff and laid one on a plate for Mayenda v Sheff Wed. I would welcome him back.

Im sure you can have your own meaning for football terms but I'm sure the generally accepted moden description of an inside forward is positionally outside and makes runs in for a shot or pass, what he was for us. Or an inside winger who generally cuts inside and operates in the channel, crossing more often than the forward.

I haven't seen him for Ipswich much at all but if he isn't at the very least starting out wide, then it isn't the position of an inside forward, at least I'm my understanding of the terminology.
