I'm not trying to put a downer on this and have no idea how good this lad is, but weren't Getafe notorious for playing really defensive football last season?

I'm just thinking that might elevate his stats quite a bit.

Defend incredibly compact and kick the opposition harder than they kick the ball. Been the case under Bordalas for a while now.

I guess in a Sam Allardyce kind of way then you can often make sides more compact and hence central defenders look much better than they are if they're playing in a very tight structured manner, with lots of protection in front of them, means they get exposed less.

They're relative to the team and league you play in. They should always be taken in context.

It kinda is to a degree as there's so many variables around them - chemistry within teams and team mates, style of play, quality level of the league, longevity of the stats etc etc etc.

But then absolutely no one just relies on stats, some of it has to come down to judgment and experience of that judgement alongside stats and watching said player or knowledge of them.

Too many on here are painting the idea that stats rule over all that.

Yes they are to a degree. High possession teams will make a higher volume of passes and so on
