Omar Alderete 🇵🇾 Signed!

If that’s the right flight arriving around 6pm you’d expect it to be tomorrow for the signing and medical.

He’s allegedly injured with an “undisclosed injury” but we don’t know if that’s just been protecting him as he’s been decided to be away all summer

Either way, he hasn’t played much in pre season so might not be “match fit”

Also needs to get paperwork/permits done. Tbh I’d be surprised if there’s time before Saturday

Yeah, can’t heap pressure on him and you feel Seelt has earned his chance.

We wouldn't put Guiu or Masuaku straight into a friendly after they had no preseason, can't see us doing that for this lad for a competitive game.
As the saying goes - 'Needs must as the devil drives'. We didn't need to put Guiu or Masuaku straight in to a friendly game because the outcome was unimportant. The outcome of the first Premier League game is important. Very important.

Alderete will have done his pre-season work with Getefe.

Guiu was involved in Chelsea's squad at the Club World Cup, so will be as prepared as any Chelsea player.

One would hope that as a professional athlete, Masuaku will have maintained his fitness during his period as a free agent. He may lack the 'sharpness' that playing in games supposedly provides, but that can only come through playing in - errrr - games.

As people have said Regis likes integrating first. The team that started in Germany, will start on Saturday.

From BBC Sport.

Sunderland agree a deal for 28-year-old defender Omar Alderete as their 11th summer signing for a grand total of nearly ÂŁ150m.

Know nothing about him but he has never went for much in terms of transfer fees. After our other purchases this one seems cheap. Hopefully he is just coming into his prime. Anyone any idea if he is any good and if so why we haven't had to fork out more than we have?
