I doubt you have been banned so just keep reviewing. Lovers of movies are best mates to me. As a kid movies, books and music were my only friends so you keep it going. Anyway perhaps being a huge horror genre fan makes me ignorant of all other great movies....Don't Look Now is a film I wait for your review.

Totally understand. I tend to immerse myself in things and have done since I can remember. I’m not really a fan of gore/slasher stuff, but I like the psychological side of the genre, and the older films. I’ll get that watched soon, I’m trying to force myself into eras and genres I don’t usually bother with!

My second viewing of F1 earlier today. It’s one of the films of the year for my money due to its technical brilliance and satisfying story.

Would love to see the sequel that’s being touted with Tom Cruise’s character from Days of Thunder facing off against Pitt’s Sonny Hayes, as long as Joseph Kosinski directs.

Tense German sci-fi/drama/semi-horror with hints of Cube. Some residents of an apartment block try to work out what's going on when they find themselves suddenly trapped in their building by a strange black brick wall all the way around.

Canny for what it is.

I think someone had the audacity to badmouth Once upon a time in America.

Really enjoyed the new Superman, got a good balance of the sweetness of the early films, combined with some modern nastiness.
Also good to see that he has as much control over his dog as I do mine :lol:

The new Jurassic was just depressingly boring, dinosaur Mills & Boon.
Even my son who is a fan was unimpressed, the missus said she nearly fell asleep.
 
Dangerous Animals (2025)

A wannabe Steve Irwin type is a serial killer who gets his kicks feeding live people to sharks while he films it.

Better than a film with that synopsis really should be, with some actually decent acting and direction but ultimately it is what it is.

Yakuza Graveyard (1976)

Rough as Hell take of a Dirty Harry style cop who is caught in the middle of a yakuza war. He makes some questionable decisions as he tries to balance keeping the streets stable with his personal demons.

That’s the key: keeping the streets stable. He doesn’t really try to smash the gangs, just mete out justice where it’s needed. The yakuza situation is pretty much accepted as a pillar of society. He’s a loose cannon and difficult to sympathise with, but it’s a fascinating character. He flies into a fist-filled rage at the drop of a hat, but earns respect doing it. A bleak film with some nice handheld camera work.

Deadly Record (1959)

B cheapie with airline pilot Lee Patterson returning home to find his wife absent. He goes to sleep and wakes up to discover the police at the door. They want to question her about a motor infringement, and in searching the property, find her car, then her body. Geoffrey Keen’s suspicion immediately falls on Patterson, who decides to investigate the crime himself with the help of friend Barbara Shelley.

Clocking in at 56 minutes, it’s a brief and entertaining little whodunnit which shows that Patterson can do ‘good guy’ too. The trailer for the film is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, literally showing every part of the story, including the killer.

I watched this, expected it to be utter shite but was pleasantly surprised- agree with the 6/10, filled a decent 90 mins

Have you seen Brick [2005] starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Rian Johnson's first film.
 
Just finished reading The Good, The Bad and The Multiplex by Mark Kermode.

Interesting book. His ideas about blockbusters, fads and distribution all make sense at the time of him writing, especially his view of blockbusters (it’s almost impossible for them to lose money, so why not make them better?).

I’d like to see him do an updated version to assess the impact of streaming, both as a distribution model and a production model.

His long, long, long chapters will put some people off, and he does go off on tangents a lot, but his love of film really does shine through. You get the sense that if it wasn’t his job, he’d still be as passionate.
