Cricket Gear

Lorimers in bishop Auckland have the biggest range, theres newlands sports in Langley moor/meadowfield but they tend to have more smaller south african brands like DP and IXU, rather than your Gray Nics and Kookaburra
theres also Optimum sport in Newcastle, but they tend to sell more of their own brand stuff and team kit

Where's the best places to get it these days? It's been a while...
I buy most of my gear online from owzat-cricket. Bats are different - My last bat was a custom made from a smaller batmaker called aldred cricket - top notch bats!

Theres FAR better value in the smaller bat brands these days rather than going to the big boys. Much better service imo. Was just doing a repair for a lad last week who spent nearly 500 notes on a new bat only to find the handle loose straight out of the box!

yeah theres loads of club cricketers using bats ive never even heard of, but its finding the smaller brands thats the hard part

As @Sillypoint said - Lorimers is the best locally if you want to physically go into a shop and browse. Their online website is decent too. Their own brand pads/bats/gloves are more than adequate for club cricket, comfortable and durable and at a much reduced price to all the mainline branded gear - BUT, they usually sell out early season so you might struggle to get that stuff now (unless you’re left handed ;))

If you have a specific bit of kit in mind, branded too, I’ve found loads of value on eBay.

its a shame that actual shops are so rare now, cos for cricket equipment its got to fit right, ive stopped ordering stuff for the bairn online as we nearly always sent it back as it wasnt quite right, difficult to size kids up too especially teenagers, they hit an awkward age where the youths/boys stuff is too small and the adults is too big

Where do we think the best physical shops in the UK are? I'd love to go in somewhere and be able to pick up and look at a bunch of bats and pads, try on some helmets etc.

Like this, but not in Australia -

Ordering online and then having to return 90% of stuff is a ballache.

apart from the north east ones ive only been to all rounder cricket at headingley which is pretty small, think they have a larger store in sheffield though

Can't ever fault Lorimers. Incredibly helpful staff.
I'd second this.
Decent range of gear in given the season was well under way when we went.
Helpful staff who were spending plenty of time with various people including kids/families trying stuff on and advising on fit for all of the equipment; bats, pads, gloves, helmets etc.

If you can be arsed to travel the B3 factory is worth it in Notts. Kippax just outside Leeds as well where they grow their own willow on site.

I know this won’t be of much help to you, but when we were at Taunton for Somerset v Durham recently we looked in their club shop and what an excellent range of equipment they had on display, couldn’t comment on prices.

That looks decent actually. And only 29 miles away!

Optimum cricket is near b and q just past the metro.

I do their refurbs for them.

Been using Newlands for the bairns stuff. Needing to kit him out this month for him starting on hard balls. Lad in there who plays for Tudhoe really helpful. Managed to pick up some D&P gloves today for a fiver. Not looking forward to forking out for his first hard ball bat and helmet like 😔 although newlands has 20% off some IXU bats.

That being said. Lorimers is on ebay and selling GM roller bags for £40 which is really good.
