Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Does anyone know if there is a plan in place to test how it holds up under the weight of full match-day footfall? It almost feels like we are being made the guinea pigs to test its strength. A mate of mine was on a run down the river, he worked on the Megyeri Bridge whilst living out in Budapest and said he had some real worries about the standard of work on our new footbridge. He said the abutments (end supports for transferring loads) didn’t look sufficient for the loads it would need to transfer on a matchday.
🤔 I'll take the long way round.

Sorry mate but it was in the local media. If you are working on it please enlighten us when the exact opening date has been set.
The council have been pushing for the rugby World Cup, Volker Stevin are on site until October , as reported today it will be open for the rugby but will then close again to finish it . Almost everything about the bridge is bespoke and that has obviously caused issues, but when it is finished it will look fantastic.

It was meant to be ready for July. Finishing has took a long time. Appear to be dragging their heels.
Volker Stevin will not be dragging their heels, they’ll be going flat out to finish it because they’ll have to pay back money for being late. This one day opening will cost Sunderland council thousands but will look good.
