ECB admits the 16.4 has brought no new fans

As i’ve said before, I can’t think of a time where Cricket in England has been as irrelevant as now.

In the summer of 2005 the sport was riding the crest of a wave and had really burst into the national consciousness. What did the brains trust do? Took the money and put the sport behind a paywall. f***ing morons.
The Hundred may become a T20 tournament. Who didn't see this coming?

So now we’re going to have two T20 competitions in the summer having completely sidelined the 50 over competition.

Absolutely inevitable it was ridiculous it wasn’t in the first place.

The sooner the better it changed to T20
Yet higher ticket sales??? Means they make more money.

And players earn a fortune.. the most important reason it takes place.

It's going nowhere. Get used to it.

Think you totally missed my point?

Don’t want it going anywhere just changed to T20.

Surely you not saying if the competition had the same teams at the same venues in the same month of August.

That ticket sales would be higher for 100 balls than 120?

Or that players would not get the same fortune?

I don't know anyone who watches it, whether it be a long standing fan, a passing fan or a new one.
I’ve watched it each year. Barely watch full games, mind.

Going to a game this year for the first time (as in first Hundred game).

It’s surely a bit of extra cash for the likes of Paul Walter, so there’s some positives.

I gave it a chance in the first season. Went to a couple of games (though one was washed out) and saw a few on TV but it didn't work for me so I've ignored it since.

A couple of tweaks to T20 to make it more "accessible" with more free to air TV coverage would be better

Posters always miss your point 😀

Actually what they’ve admitted is that they haven’t even looked. To quote the article “Gould said no work had been done into finding out if any of those new fans remain involved in the sport when the tournament is out of action”.

Which is probably an even bigger indictment on the ECB when you think about it.

They’ve never recovered from that. A huge sliding doors moment.

I’ve heard it called cricket’s missed Italia 90 moment. The moment when a traditional sport that had been dying on its arse for the previous decade suddenly managed to tap on the residual goodwill it held through being so woven into our sporting fabric to connect unexpectedly with the entire nation one glorious summer. Football never looked back. Cricket just went back backwards.
