Robin Roefs 🇳🇱 compendium

Downey saying he expects at least 2 or 3 new signings while talking about Roefs signing, not sure if he's just speculating as I think we need 2cbs, a striker and a winger/striker?
The hair said we expect about 8 before Xhaka, Roefs and...Adingra I think? So seems about right, 3 would be a minimum.

That's all true, but I don't think PSR for 2026-27 is a major consideration in whether Neil is offered a new contract now he may sign.

Cash flow will be a bigger factor in selling / keeping.
Indeed. Selling is a strength of sorts now though. The only living boyhood Sunderland fan to captain his side to a Wembley win will be an accolade for a long time. In my heart I want him to stay but in my head, I’m not sure he can step and we have a dearth of options now. Even during AFCON, he’s not 100% sure if starting should rigg step up. Selling him for say 8-10 million enables a big buy on the Diarra scale. Would feel shitty if he left for nowt, particularly if we go down.

Hello all, I've seen all of Roefs' senior team games as I have a season ticket at NEC. Made an account here as I wanted to see what y'all thought of him and will probably be following the club if he actually gets some time on the pitch.

So some context:

Roefs was always very highly rated in the academy at our club. Joined senior team training camps from age 16 for example. Last summer, we sold Jasper Cillessen (ex Barca, Valencia, Dutch national team and also from our youth academy) so that Roefs would get enough playtime.

Seen a lot of questions here on his passing and that his stats on this aren't great. This, in my opinion, is down mostly to our playstyle last year. We started out by playing from the back quite a bit, but then some of our best build up players got injured or lost form, so most of the season he was just told to hoof it long to strikers that generally weren't great at receiving those types of passes. I think with the right players around him at the back, he's above average on the ball. He's confident with both legs and generally has a decent to good pass. Also not shy

His main weakness last year was that we conceded 2 or 3 goals from direct free kicks where Roefs didn't look well-positioned. This was all in the first half of the season though and he seems to have learned from that.

Aside from that fact that he's obviously pretty good at saving shots, the thing that we always really liked in the stadium was how much he comes off his line to grab a cross. He does that way better than the far more experienced Cillessen.

I really look forward to seeing him in the PL, hopefully he becomes the first choice GK.
That’s a very MOR description of a player we’re about to spend over 10 million pounds on

He will know bits but will fill in the gaps and some guesswork. He said on the RR podcast aired this morning that we wanted experience in GK position.

We've signed one with much less than Patterson.
Got a feeling we might cash in on Patterson, Can see him going to Southampton once Ramsdale is done, then we also go and get an experienced keeper.

Could see someone like Frazer Forster / Matty Ryan coming in as backup incase it goes tits up with the young lad.

Who's offering 8-10m? Can't see it probs 2-3.

At the end of last summer he’d signed 49 players. I had heard of 16. After that we signed Connolly, Le Fee, Danns, all of whom I’d heard of but would not claim to know much about.
So far this summer Reinildo, Adingra and Xhaka.
Exactly!

I think people should give the club some grace on unknown players

Reading through the NEC forum and what a lovely fanbase a few seem to be planning to come and watch us v Newcastle, I doubt they'll get tickets mind!

As expected, this is a realistic price in this market. Robin is a mega talent. We'll miss him.
Sunderland is a fantastic club with a beautiful stadium.
Easy to visit, even by boat from Newcastle. That's reason enough for me to watch a match of his next season.

Sunderland, a great club with people, where you can still chat with the players after a match, at least not last season in the Championship...just forget about the Champions League and expect a relegation battle.
Good for NEC and good for Roefs,

he'll certainly have plenty to do if he becomes the first-choice goalkeeper there against the big names, and therefore plenty of opportunities to play for the Dutch national team.

And now let's support Sunderland wholeheartedly. I think staying alive will be one of the bonuses.

And a great club. They're building a nice team!

Next season I'll be taking in a match at Sunderland
But they all seem to think they've got a great deal out of this which is slightly alarming, I mean none of them saying he's poor but think they're surprised after just one season he goes for that much
It's funny to see: on the Sunderland forum, they think people in the Netherlands are surprised by the transfer fee, because it's supposedly so low. It's a matter of perspective, so to speak.

Paterson must be going. I can understand buying this lad if we sell Patto and get someone like Ortega comes in just incase this lad can’t handle this league. No chance we’re going into the season with them two
