If we had paid more money would he be a better keeper ?

There is no evidence that SAFC are "... running out of money ...". The club has paid a significant fee for a young keeper. The fee is what the selling club were prepared to accept. Why would SAFC choose to pay more ?

By comparison, the 32 years old Stefan Ortega, who has been suggested as a possible signing, at a cost of £20m+, has played 25 league games for Man City since 2022 and has no international caps. I realise that Ortega has been behind Ederson and ter Stegen for club and country, both of whom are very good 'keepers. Roefs has the potential to be a very good player for us.

especially with keepers. need to see his highlight reel for commanding the box, distribution, ball at his feet under pressure etc. every keeper has spectacular saves in them. lets hope this kid is the next big thing though. clearly excellent competition for Patto just not sure he's necessarily the clear starter

Looks decent....like the way he stays big on approaching forwards Schmeichel like.

Young and learning all the time, also looks like he could command his area well.
 
From a pal who's a NEC season ticket holder...

He was excellent for us. Very young but made a real good impression. He is very tall and picks a lot of high balls. Not afraid to leave his goal. Great stats. However, premier league is a different story than our league.
Roefs is the U21 goal keeper and people here believe he will be the Dutch national goalkeeper
 
The key take away from him seems to be he's quick and commanding off his line, and comfortable with the ball at his feet- both areas which Patto isnt.

Patto is a fantastic shot stopper, but his weaknesses will be exposed massively in the PL.

I would have felt more confident if we'd signed Ortega to be fair.

It’s not unreasonable to be sceptical of a lad who’s only had one season

Had a great year and is a great young keeper with bags of ability already

But needs to prove consistency

If he does then it’s a class buy. You’re doing nothing wrong by worrying like
