More journalists writing us off

Time will obviously tell but I’m a hell of a lot more optimistic than I was a few weeks ago, it’s looking highly likely we will sign more players so if we can get a few more quality additions then I’ll go into the season pretty confident, the pl is a tough league but theres do a few teams capable of having a honking season. Who knows how Brentford roll be effected for example, wolves ain’t great neither are West Ham, who always seem a few poor results away from total meltdown. Someone has to buck the trend eventually, why not us.

I know he is retired but Doug Weatherall was the only journalist, along with John Donoghue, who I trusted and respected. These journos are not as good nowadays. The reporters of the past also knew when to keep quiet. I would not trust any of them today. I am not bothered what they think and the same goes for the pundits. It is a different world these days and if we stay up bloody brilliant. If we dont then not so brilliant. Some of us have long memories - not many good times but they are fantastic when they happen. That is what that lot up the road do not understand - it is called supporting your club.

If the season started today we’d struggle to stay up – keeper, defence and strikers not good enough. But given what we’ve seen so far I’d be stunned if that’s not rectified in the next fortnight

It's fair enough really, the gap is massive, no promoted team has even threatened to have an interesting relegation battle in the last 2 years, they've all gone down comfortably. We're all buzzing with our transfer business, rightly so, but the other 17 clubs have had literally years of this type of recruitment.

We are shorter than 1/3 to be relegated, imo that is too short and I expect us to be better than that implies, but if we do stay up we should acknowledge how unlikely it was.

Think we just need to wait and see, we have shown a lot of ambition but a slow start with our winnable games and the mood on here will soon change.
Yep..this place resident negative nellys will be the first to turn 🤣.. they were calling RLB all sorts under the sun a week before the playoffs 😉

A good start would do nicely 👌

You should follow a few of the Leeds or Burnley pundits, they are very confident in their own clubs business. Its also very easy to get wrapped up in our own transfers and think we’re going to be world beaters. Reality is we will struggle, makes you wonder why the like of Xhaka is so up for the fight? it’s not going to be pretty. Having said that a good few games at the start of the season and will give us a chance. Fingers crossed.

I had seared the poster's name on the Wembley match thread who was calling for RLB to be sacked but now forgotten as a nothing event

Your avatar is something 😅 what's her name and is she single?

The new signings may be encouraging and better than we hoped/expected but the stark reality is that we are still firm favourites to go down.

Fastening your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy season. We will lose more than we will win and while there may be some encouraging performances there will be some wallopings too. If we do go down then we need to take the experience (and money) and be better next time. Let's have faith in the project and not be demanding the RLB be sacked if we are in the bottom 3 by Christmas (although the usual booboys and bedwetters are sure to be out in force after the first defeat).

That first paragraph is bang on the money and it should be used to your advantage. No f*cks given and just go at it.

I fear though the expectations among the fans (particularly given the signings) is that if they lose a couple of games on the trot, particularly the fixture against West Ham, then it will turn a little doom and gloom.

It's the toughest league in the world for a reason.

Latest being the football ramble, the mag on there couldn’t wait to have a pop. He doesn’t know where we’re going to get a point from 😂 smacks of a bunch of journalists who never poke their heads outside of the premier league bubble.

My issue with these 'journalists' these days spouting up on podcasts is that many of them are mums spare room type weirdos with no club affinity, who haven't been to a game in their lives.

We're still favourites to go down. It's not surprising. It is a risk signing these youngsters with no premier league experience.

It might turn out really well, but equally, it might not. I'm more than happy to see us use this approach rather than signing the likes of Longstaff.
We've done the day's of signing journeymen has beens.Invest in youth. We ll do just fine !

I think we're going to surprise a few people, but of course we are the obvious bet to go down.

Leicester walked the championship in 2024 but they went down with a wimper last year. Promoted sides just dont seem to do well anymore.

It was only 5 years ago that Brentford got promoted, Bournemouth and Fulham only 3 years ago.

A team promoted through the play off predicted to struggle in the top flight. Which bit are we supposed to be outraged at?
Agreed. If you ask any journalist (be they a Newcastle fan or a Sunderland fan or an Arsenal fan or indeed a Scunthorpe fan) at this point in the Summer for a prediction then who else would you expect them to pick as bottom?
The window is open. Until it closes nobody knows what a clubs starting 11 will be thus the team promoted via play-off’s is the obvious pick.

Unless and until we strengthen at the back, which of course we all expect us to do, then it's fair enough to write us off.

*As things stand* we don't have a competitive squad, but there's every reason to hope we will by the start of the season.

We’re favourites to come 20th currently which is fair. If we add the 4 or 5 quality signings we all hope for down the spine of the team then we will have a chance. For the confidence being shown on here I hope a lot of bets have been placed on us stopping up as you will be in line to make a lot of money !
