If we get this lad, Mikutadze ( who just looks like he would be huge favourite in the way he plays) and Xhaka and a 12th/13th finish is not an unreasonable expectation.

It’s our first season up in a league where newly promoted teams struggle
Players are good on paper but they have to gel together
17th is all we should be aiming for
'Expecting' and 'aiming' are obviously not interchangeable and I agree with you that expecting 12/13th is perhaps unreasonable. But I think aiming for it is reasonable. Put it another way, I don't think Granit Xhaka (or Jhon Lucumi) would join Sunderland if we are aiming for 17th.

I admire your confidence, I honestly reckon add those two and I’ll be confident of finishing 10th to 15th, and I’ll personally be over the moon with that in year one back up. Without a few more through the door and I’d be ecstatic with 17th.

Doesn't mean you can't hope for higher, or that the club shouldn't aim higher. But I'd snap your hand off for 17th still as things stand, even with 2 or 3 more of those linked through the door.
That's all he's saying. If we finish 17th, jobs a good'n first season up.

Bang on. I know we are all excited and it is fantasy stuff all of these signings......but survival is the aim. Simple as. Anything else is mind blowing tbh.

17th isnt where the players should be aiming. But it should be what the fans are happy with.
That’s not how aiming works that’s what we want if we get more then we’ve achieved it
Yes this is what I mean. Even with all the signings if we finish 17th it’s been a major success in my eyes
