Lords

I think it’s unrealistic to not have a Lords test at all, buts it’s fundamentally wrong that it’s treated any different from the other test grounds.

It should be on the rota and treated the same as other test grounds.

I am sure the members and fans at other test grounds love it as well.
I don’t think it’s him personally
Honesty just totally shines through on this board at times ;)

It's like the England football team not having a game at Wembley though if Lords misses out on the rota.

Had a great time there in 2022 the day after our play off final to watch Durham, got in for fiver and seen a near full days play as we had to leave at tea to catch our train home.

Would love to visit again one day especially for an England game, but not for the near £200 for a days play they quote.

Well that would be fair too, Cricket and Football is a national game and as such played and watched by people throughout the country.

Therefore all of the country should get a chance to have them closer to their home if possible and the authorities should look to do that.

All am saying is why should Lords get more tests than old trafford Trent bridge etc etc

It’s bigger and sells out for one

Probably because it's the best ground? Certainly loads better than OT, Edgbaston, Rose Bowl and let's face it, it'll make the most money.

Not sure that fair, surely test matches should be as geographically spread as possible.

It probably sells out more as more money in London, to play the ridiculous prices, so there another sport for the rich and not ordinary folk

As above mate.

Or the reality is that you spread them to population density? Why does London get tests over CLS? Because the catchment area is several times over

I get what you are saying but it's a fantastic ground, a great occasion, it holds the most, it'll bring in the most income and if you want to protect test cricket then it needs a test match every year - all players want to play a test at Lords.

Well that’s a point but I am sure that population density could make they way over to the other test ground in London.

Is it fair to always have a test match in London?

Possibly.

Is it fair to have two in London every single year? I don’t think soo.

Is it fair that the furthest Northern venue for the next Ashes is Nottingham.

Absolutely not imo

I first went to Lords in 1975 to see the Aussies. It was very dated. You look at it now and it is brilliant. For me the playing area is too small and on a slant.

Yeah I can see what you saying up to a point.

It’s certainly an iconic venue, but don’t like the fact they take advantage of that charge the prices that they do, therefore almost a double whammy, ordinary folk may not be able to afford that and other ordinary folk in other parts of the country miss out.

You have a point about sharing it over the country, I won’t deny it

but there are plenty of reasons why London gets 2. They sell for starters

Headingley was similar ticket prices this year.

I think it's because the tourists traditionally are given a game at "the home of cricket". Lords only get 2 tests if there are 2 touring teams. Lords and the Oval raise by far the biggest revenue. Hence Oval always hosts the final tests. Provincial grounds e.g. Chester-le -Street can't get anywhere near those revenues. The only criticism is why Hampshire appear to be in the circuit.

Yeah your population density is certainly a fair argument up to a point.

Is it right just to sell to people who can afford the Lords prices because you can sell them and price ordinary folk out of it.

Plus there is still this element of British superiority complex that I don’t like in sport in this country.

The Golf calling themselves ‘ The Open and the winner ‘ champion golfer of the year’ as if other tournaments don’t matter.

And Wimbledon and Lords test is just another example of that snobbery outlook.

Imo of course ;)
