More than sentiment, he would have been a quality signing for us. Boatloads of experience at this level and he's a leader of men, would have been our captain. His passing in last season's Europa league was better 95+ percentile, we struggled to complete passes last season.

Exactly my thoughts - it could be heaven (fourth bottom) or hell (fourteen or so points). Cannot blame the club for having a go in the transfer market but bringing in one, quality PL player would probably blow half the budget.

Brentford have apparently joined Fulham as the nice little earner in London, without all the stress, for a player at the end of their career. I would have liked him back, but can see why the club didn’t as they are so focused on player and team development - this would have been a distraction, and an expensive one. We have just paid a club record signing for a player who was in a team whose midfield completely bypassed one containing Jordan Henderson.
