Simon Adingra joins Sunderland. It's official. 25 million transfer fee + 4 million bonuses. Despite interest from AC Milan, Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund, Simon has shown a keen interest in the Black Cats' project, promoted to the Premier League this season. Good luck, Simon 👊🏿🇨🇮

25+4? That is a lot of money for him, if accurate

Yes 21+4 to reach 25 would be more in line with what else is being reported. It's a lot IMO for him but trust in the recruitment team

That's not what the tweet says

The tweet does say that

In a way it's quite a similar signing to them getting Watson.
We both have similar philosophies regarding transfers (they are probably our biggest influence in that regard).
We both want to develop players so that when we move players on they are ready to step.up. the problem is, is that at times you get a bit of a backlog-
Our problem with Watson is that he was behind Mundle, who isn't ready to go yet (as Clarke was a year ago) so Watson didn't get as many minutes at the start of the season that he probably warranted- and then he was unlucky with an injury when he could have played more.
So selling him worked out well because Mundle is still ahead of Watson
Adringa seems to be in the same position with Mitoma.
So we bring in Adringa who is probably a year or two away from his big money move (I think he's good enough)- give him games and we have Mundle to keep developing to step up (which works out because of the difference in quality required for the PL compared to the championship).
We' ve basically swapped 'tweener wingers. Both were too good for for their respective teams to be number two (adringa comes to us to be number 1 and Watson goes to them- who are s team above us let's be honest- to be number 2)

They did show interest though
Yes but interest might be sounding out valuation or asking agent about wage expectations and leaving it there. That doesn't mean we've beaten them to his signature, that would mean they were bidding for him / offering for him a package as well

We might well have done, but the tweet doesn't say that
