Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

The club have to make a decision and fans should trust them after the progress the club has made. I'd have Henderson but also happy to let the club decide. .

Loads of fans wanted Defoe back and he was a disaster. They theb wanted Mvila back about a year ago and he was awful at West brom.

Let the club do their job and not have meltdowns online.
Agree, and I am sure the club know this, the squad needs somebody with experience, ideally one who can play a part.

I thought everyone hated him now because he played in Saudi.

Nobody ever hated him, man.

People thought it was a mistake. I still do, for the record. But like who hasn't made mistakes.

You can criticise people without hating them. I think he took blood money by going to an islamic dictatorship which execute hundreds of people a year but I also think he's a terrific footballer who has done a lot for charity and handled himself well while here and at Liverpool.

He'd be a huge asset for the club and I'd love to have him here. Doesn't mean I still don't think the Saudis are *****. But there's a difference between a player going there and then coming here, and our club being owned by the bastards.
Exactly it’s not as though Jordan was doing the executions. It’s yesterday’s news. (If the mags were not owned by SA most of us wouldn’t give it a second thought)

Nothing sentimental about a JH return. It would be an excellent move based on talent, experience and influence. I am absolutely against sentiment in every regard, especially holding on to players who got us promoted but won't cut it at the top level.
My only interest is seeing Sunderland AFC as an established top flight club. It's been a long time with many false dawns.
Jordan Henderson would contribute hugely to achieving this. It would be of immense mutual benefit and the club should go all out to secure his services.
Talent as in 5 years ago? Yeah

His legs were going at the end of his Liverpool career nevermind if you watch him now

He wants a much bigger role at the club than people realize, beyond being a player. He wants a pathway to coaching/management (football or possibly non-football). Can see why the club would be reluctant. This is from his Dad back in January.

And he can still fuck off with the Saudi craic IMO.

It’s pretty much exactly the same except the fact the lads a Mackem

It’s still not Speakmans decision but even if it was the fact you’re slating him with all the work the clubs done in 4 years is funny

Oh also not sure if you know we have a new director of football
Not slating him but hes made plenty mistakes and has a bit of a attitude tbf

Yeh makes total sense to give him a "pathway" to coaching whats the problem with that

Think you're being a bit over the top there mind.

Don't see any PL club trembling at the thought of facing Henderson tbh. There more likely to shit themselves when they see the energy and pace that's in the team.

The point is Henderson is a recognisable name in world football.

He could drop back into the Premier League and most opposition players will know who he is and respect what he has achieved.

Who else in our squad can we say that about? It's not a dig at our current squad I've already said we have some talented youngsters.

But none of them have the experience or have achieved what Henderson has.

Aye could also potentially undermine the manager will be sniffing about his job if it’s not going well

I don’t see many midfielders currently in the premier league that wouldn’t torture him with legs

He's a free agent, he's already rich. If he wanted it to happen he could easily afford to lower his wage demands and make himself available to be a Sunderland player
Personally he might not have the legs for the premier league, but his experience in the dressing room and on the training pitch would surely be welcome
Exactly. He's proven in the past that money means most to him. Those who think he'd be great for the dressing room forget he'd built himself up as a paragon of virtue and sold that at first chance to a vile regime. That's not the example I'd want for our younger players. It may make sense on pitch, although that's debatable. We need the right type of people. If he wasn't from sunderland people wouldn't want him imo.

In which case I can see why they would be reluctant, if he's telling the club hierarchy what he wants as a job with a predestined pathway etc. We have clear structures around all that and JH is in no position to dictate or expect guarantees around any of that. We are run far more professionally than that now.

Not that this will necessarily be true however.

I don't have a problem with that at all to be honest.

It should be at RLB's discretion of course, but in my eyes having a player who is willing to do his badges, take the odd training session/ shadow the leadership team at the club, and eventually apply to a role at the club when the a position is vacant (or leave to go manage elsewhere or whatever) is hardly the scariest thing in the world. In fact, if he's training to do his coaching etc. he might actually be even more beneficial to younger players at the club - he'd be able to take 1-2-1 coaching sessions etc.

It's well known that he's got a footballing brain like no other, he's won everything going in football, and presumably he's willing to come here for basically free (if we're giving those coaching opportunities too). It's not me being sentimental to think that's only a positive thing for our young squad.
