ShudderSelling Jordan Henderson for £20m and signing him back for free has got to be better than selling George McCartney for £600k and buying him back for £6m.

Liverpool pushed him there for the fee IMO.To be fair aswell it was only the Gerrard connection what took him there, and he couldn’t even see out a year.
Dan Neil would have to relinquish that captaincy in a second and there’s no guarantees he even signs a new deal. Sentiment is weakness. Survival is the priority and I’d feel more confident with a player who loves the club and has won it all leading us to that potential.PSR wise it’s money in the bin. Headache captaincy wise as well, are we really going to have Dan Neil captaining Jordan Henderson.
Sentimentally I’d love him back, but he’s a big wage and no resale what so ever in a position we have lots of cover. No from me
Crikey that Sunderland Echo website gets worse every time I go on it. You can't even read anything for adverts. How underfunded must it be? Looks like its ran by drunk university studentsCopley using chatGPT there?

Had to look because I thought this was a joke. Oh dearImagine being so lazy you don’t even get rid of the Ask chatGPT
When have you heard him speak? Players often have poor spells, players who aren't captains.Poor start to the season, captaincy clearly weighting heavy, not a great performance in the play off final, not the greatest motivational speaker. If your a 20 million pound player coming into Sunderland, would Neil be a player you look up too and want to go to war with? I doubt it. Henderson on the other hand!
Exactly what we need as a newly promoted side full of kids: a legendary Captain full of experience at the highest level, cult Sunderland hero, England current player, Ajax captain wanted by clubs like Porto etc. Would be a superb signing IMO!
the pathway to greatnessHendo lived in Middle Herrington, and went to East Herrington Juniors and Farringdon Seniors.
This bit tickled me...Copley using chatGPT there?

Of course it would. He’s a leader thats won it all, is a mackem as well!Would he get the captaincy straight away though? Not sure that would be right
To be fair he looks like he speaks great in the dressing room, but from watching him live in the stadium and on TV he lacks leadership on the pitch. He had a lot of poor games last season, yet a lot of very good games. His physique is questionable to battle with some midfielders in the Premier League and he would struggle to step up. Be great if he had 2 or 3 year left on his current deal to adapt to the league and fight for his place, but with the current and linked signings im his position I think he could be off! When have you heard him speak? Players often have poor spells, players who aren't captains.
If I was coming into a club and saw a local lad as captain who had just been captain in a side that won promotion I'd look and have respect for.. I'd also have a look at what the coach of the side thinks about him and he thinks very highly of him
