Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

Surprised by poor attendance last couple of days. Thought it would be wick with Indian fans
Wasn't just their lot I'm afraid, today's attendance was piss poor from us too. Considering it was £20 a ticket and the game finely balanced with a huge chase on, there was no excuse really. Everyone in Yorkshire should be ashamed of themselves. Cricketing hot bed my arse.
Wow.

That was a proper, grown up performance. No hubris, no silly bollocks, that was a proper, mature, superb performance.

Big concerns with the ball, we can't hide that. But batting wise, if this is the new, reformed Bazball, im on board 100%. Positive and attacking without the reckless, brain dead shit. Well, bar Stokes!

Superb.
Nail on head. Bazball with brains TMS were calling it. I'm onboard the McCullum train again. (Never really left ;)

They've got similar concerns with the ball. They're going to play Jadeja as their bowling all rounder and play another all-rounder (Reddy) or a specialist spinner in Kuldeep. Which will lengthen the tail even more. I can't see how they rest Bumrah either. They need him.

Happy days. Roll on the 2nd test!

Attendance wasn't great but nor was the weather forecast and on a workday - many can't just take a day off at short notice. Not a cricketing hotbed either, more cricketing tight@rses

I was ready to go last night until reminded of a prior commitment

Shouldn't everyone in County Durham have popped down, like? It's on our doorstep.

That depends which part of County Durham, I suppose. Only 70 minutes from Darlington and 80 minutes from Peterlee.
Still an hour and a half mate. 3 hours total. I'm not saying it's not doable, plenty from round our way went for the Saturday/Sunday. Definitely a day trip if not an overnighter.

I'm on about people who live a stones throw away, Harrogate, Rippon, York, Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield etc. there should have been enough yorkies to fill the ground.

Hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the match at all today, just a shame the ground wasn't packed to see that superb batting display. But I understand, work, weather etc was an issue.

Great victory and tbh I was always confident which says a lot about how much England have improved under Stokes/McCullum. There's definitely room for refinement still but it looks as if we are already on that path to a more measured approach.

Bumrah aside, who won't play 5 tests, the Indian bowling attack and fielding was extremely poor IMO. It is difficult to see them improving much either, especially with Bumrah missing tests. We have to be huge favourites now.

Pros - All the top 7 got a score of some sorts. Carse looked handy again, Tongue falls into both categories as he looked innocuous against the top order but blew away the tail. Stokes looked near his peak with the ball.
Cons - Woakes looked off the boil but that is largely down to lack of match practise. Tongue (See above), Bashir posed little threat

This aged well.
Fancy discussing this again

“This is definitely won if we get 30 of those 45 overs left”.

My post to which you jumped right in after a couple of wickets

One could say your post Aged well

:lol::p

I warned you it was too early for a bump to make a point

Sorry and all that

Liam Dawson scored 139 yesterday , then came back out and took 2 wickets

It’s a bit strange how this lad has not really been given a go at test level

He could be a late bloomer like Swann, who got games early and then was discarded for a few years

Now I like shoaib and he shows promise, but he’s only playing tests matches to learn his craft

I would take Dawson to Australia as a potential starter as he can add to the batting and has the nous to hold an end with the ball

The biggest lesson we’ve learned under “Bazball” is that County Cricket is a load of crap and at times may as well be a different sport to Test Cricket. Liam Dawson is the standard County plodder. IMO.

I do agree but I was using Swann as an example of a late bloomer

They have now got Dawson in the odi set up which he was absent from for a good few years so I suspect they are having a look at him in that format

I don’t think going to Australia with only Shoaib as a spinner is a good move and with the form Dawson is in , he could be a back up

Yeah back up is fair enough. I’m not saying Shoaib is great either, just that I think we need to be careful using county stats alone. You said it before I did, but was going to mention the white ball stuff, if they think he’s got an attribute they like then they’ll pick him as they’ve shown.

Shoaib will go but to have only one spinner may be the wrong way

Have to have at least two spinners and not rely on part time of Root

Rehan Ahmed maybe the other option but he to is barely used on games

Jacks is another possible as he had success overseas

Be interesting though to see what happens
