SOL expansion

Great days 😎 Looking at StatCat we got 41k against Southampton in the 2nd game of 1st Division yet only got 32k against Everton in opening game and 32k against Boro after Anyone know why? Was it just to see Southampton players or were the bosses watching the turnstiles?

lots of fiddling the attendances in those days by all parties. Hence now the attendance figures are on tickets sold and not on those attending the game (tax man issues).
children lifted over the turnstiles. adults (children) in two for one turnstile and any other way you can think off to make a couple of bob or get in for nowt

Fair point mate. I’m more thinking if we don’t stay up.

Make a good case for it there. As I’ve said in other posts it’s predicated on us staying in the PL or if the worst happens and we do go next season we come back up relatively quickly and stay there.
In theory that could happen at any point to half the prem. Not stopping Bournemouth

Hope so, I’d like to think we are at a position now where we were in 2001, when the squad needed serious investment but we’d blown it on extending the ground.

We have a seemingly clean slate to push on and go for it this season, I’m just hoping we don’t do what the promoted/relegated shitters have done in the last 2/3 years and fail to put up a fight.
We have billionaires in charge who, in theory have access to funds to do both.

.. Pulling the people counter away from the wall stopped it from recording someone coming in. I'd bet that was by far the biggest fiddle ..

Just stumbled across this on YouTube and it seems somewhat relevant. The video is a year old, so there have obviously been some upgrades since, like Quinn’s bar and the BCB/Founders bar.

There are lots of areas I’ve never seen before like the Montgomery Suite and it’s definitely looking a bit dated now. Also I’ve never been on the premier concourse before, I had no idea that there was so much extra room up there!

Sure Quinn’s, Business Lounge and Montgomery suite have all been refurbished, if they do bring the away fans back down to the lower bowl the following season I can see the club doing something in the North West Upper in the equivalent space to where 76 yards is on that concourse and sitting them in the first 5 rows

Southampton had just signed Keegan from Hamburg and that was the sole reason there was another 10k on the gate.

He says in that video that there's a story of why Roman Abramovich didn't go into our boardroom, but he'd better not say it on camera. Does any know it and would be prepared to say it on the SMB?

Aye I noticed that, the little prick tease 😂
I know Roman Abramovich was vary rarely seen at any away games because his 'team' would have to scope the whole ground out weeks in advance for all possible sniper points as well as ensuring that at least 2 hospitals within a certain radius had to have his blood type available

Probably because of risk of being hit by a sniper.

This. I'm guessing it was a no go for him because of external windows/balcony.

Football getting increasingly popular
Sunderland population rising
Premier League Soccer

=

Extension to 75k within 5 years and a reduction of 20% in ticket prices

That was when there were limited varieties of entertainment though. Nowt else to do, so go to the football. Once technology developed and people could be entertained in other ways crowds dropped off - same as the Cinema, Theatre, Bowling etc.
Crowds dropped off at the end of every season if there was nowt to play for. Crowds dropped off in December or if the weather was bad or for a number of reasons. The FA Cup was immune.
