I well remember the excitement as he emerged and gained a place in the England side then the horrible injury that pretty much finished him. He has clearly suffered greatly and it's so sad to learn of his feath RIP

RIP Syd. I remember that awful injury he got. Far too young, and a terrible disease.
Very sad. By all accounts, a lovely man. RIP.
Anyone remember the aftermath of him getting his injury? Can remember Botham furious with reporters who were trying to get to close as he was carried off the field

Met Syd a few times either umpiring or at local cricket events. I can honestly say he was one of the nicest people I've ever met. Always with a smile on his face, and would talk cricket all day with anyone. He'll be sorely missed in the area. RIP big man,
