Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

If India could field, maybe a slightly different day, but we've generally made our chances count and thats ultimately what matters. Always going to be a ball eventually with your name on it, just have to ride the hard overs out if possible

Good days cricket, India could be in a much more commanding position without their sloppiness in the field (and popping crease). Early days but their attack seems a little weak behind Bumrah on that small sample.

Fair play to Pope, never been hugely convinced by him at 3 but when he's good, he's lovely to watch. He's cemented his place for a little while now and for all of the talk of Bethell, it's been premature for me. He looks a talent yes, but Pope has 9 test centuries whilst Bethell hasn't scored a FC hundred yet. They made the right choice going with Pope and he's repaid them.

Good post and spot on

Amazed they play Kuldeep so rarely

Just back from the day there today (I live near Harrogate these days which is handy) and I just have to say that that is one of those days that reminds you why test cricket is so brilliant. And also, a bit, why the never beaten attitude of this team is an improvement over the England team of the late teens, even if you disagree with some of their daft aggression at times.

Last night, we were all to some degree crying into our beer, and rightly so. By 12 o’clock today, I thought I was in for a very long day indeed. But it’s turned round and then some. Indeed, if Root hadn’t been out late tonight, we’d have almost come away feeling England were on top. They weren’t and aren’t. That’s still a big deficit. But India were so far on the back foot tactically that it felt like it a bit.

This has the makings of one good test match. And possibly even a great series. Even if it is largely based on the fact that we only have one good bowler each. Although, I’d grudgingly have to admit after today, theirs is different class. It’s a reminder of the old adage that you always have to wait for both teams to bat and that you have to give test match cricket time before you wet the bed.

Good post and as before above spot on

Excellent day for England to repair some of the damage from yesterday. Hoping Bumrah does his hammy walking up the stairs tonight as he's levels above all the other bowlers this series.

It’s early days in the series, but it looks so much as if he’s bowling on a different wicket to the rest of them - which incidentally is more or less an identical situation to what happened down in Australia in the winter. Had India had one other bowler who could produce they’d have walked that series.
We just need to bat for as long as possible tomorrow. Put time in the game and miles on Bumrah’s legs then see where we are at.

That isn’t how this team plays
