Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

I think he's questioning whether England have any chance of taking 20 wickets required to win the game on the evidence of today's bowling.
I see. Well asking about refunds suggests no intetest in it, presuming its gane over
.Im more thinking it's a Test match, where three results are always possible. And I enjoy a day of cricket even if it means you are 600 down and looking to post a similar total to essentially secure a draw on day 3. Suppose it also helps I'm not partisan when it comes to cricket. Obviously preferring England to win but just like watching live cricket. And by half way through the day half the crowd are facing away from the pitch getting absolutely leathered, building beer snakes and doing exercises being led by someone in fancy dress as Mr Motivator.

Love him or hate him but Steve Harmison said exactly that two weeks ago. He said one the squad was announced and Potts wasn't it in, the rest of the attack had hardly bowled any overs this year.

Absolutely. Listened to that podcast and he was absolutely bang on.
Is it still too early?

I've never felt Nasser in Brisbane, but it was a poor decision at the toss either way.

I have to say mind, Indian batted really well, Jaiswal, Rahul and Gill looked really impressive and Pant is just mad.

Read an interesting article a few years ago that argued (with stats) that the Nasser decision was correct.

I was trying to make an innuendo there which mustn't have landed  but I'd like to say on record that both decisions were wrong.

(Apparently at Brisbane, Hussain went on the feedback of his batsmen who thought it was a bowl first pitch)

I think I'd be a bit p!ssed off if I'd forked out circa £100 with all 3_results possible, yes, but unlikely already.

Stats said it was the correct decision

Reality though was different

Anything under 500 and it will be a chance to come back but imo a draw is only play for England now

England have also bowled first in 8 of the last 9 tests at home in which they've won the toss.

Bazball is great and much better than what came before but this is the frustration that some have which I think is justified. At times it seems to be very one dimensional with tactics the same regardless of circumstances.

Its a bit like our first game in India in the ODI WC when Buttler decided to bowl first because England like chasing so we sent the team out in blistering day time heat to bowl and the team were clearly exhausted. Meanwhile the opposition had the luxury of fielding later when it was night time and cooler. We then said later that we hadnt really considered the heat when making the decision! Criminal.

Remember that a huge error it was

I fancy root and brook to go big on this track

it was a tongue in cheek comment mowsy lad

not really, the writing is on the wall.

I reckon India will get 500+, declare tomorrow and we will struggle to get to 300 in both of our innings.
Still odd on day one of a five dayer. We could bat a day and and a half still and take away their chance of victory. The very essence of test cricket.

Saying that, as I said, much less partisan about cricket and still rather looking forward to it regardless

See what happens but I’m not holding much hope, as I said it was a very much tongue in cheek comment.

I’ll still be there on Sunday, looking forward to it.

Really? Well your follow up suggested otherwise tbf sir but i might have it wrong. I suppose I sort of get it if you're partisan and only enjoy it if England are doing well.

Good lad. You're guaranteed some good cricket regardless.

Would normally agree but we have a poor bowling attack and the weather wasn't typically first day at Leeds. The kind of day where you have to use your noggin a bit instead of relying on stats.

I know but on telly they stated about those stats so I posted that at the time

After the first hour my doubts set in about the decision

They’ll need to do well for draw

watching it today wasn’t easy so of course I’m not confident we’ll even draw, i still have every intention of going, win lose or draw.

Horrific decision to bowl but you can’t dress us up we fielded a woefully under prepared and poor bowling attack struggling to beat anybody with that.

Tongue is nowhere near international class, Woakes off an injury hit campaign aged 36 bowling sub 80mph.

They seem awfully high on Carse thigh the was ok but your not winning a 5 test series against a good side fielding that attack.

If we don’t have extra pace we will get murdered in the Ashes. Stokes was the pick of bowlers but that’s not saying much.

Glad I missed the final session.

The decision at the toss looked bad and has been bad.

Why does he have to get so funky rather than play to our strengths.

As stupid as the declaration in the 1st ashes test in 2023.
