Chris Wilder

Just dripped into thread
Talking generally, sounded like you were too
No, I was talking about him signing average players for big fees which were no better than they already had.

He bought Canon to provide the goals to get them promoted. He put him straight into the side and gave him plenty of opportunities. He repaid him with 1 goal and 1 assist in 17 games over 5 months.

He came on after 90 minutes in the play off final because Hume splattered BBD.

Don't like the bloke but he's not the first manager to sign a dud . Look at some of our Goal machines we've signed in the past .

BBD and Canon didn’t look up for it when they came on. Wilted.

i know it’s a well trod out argument but he massively overextended the club financially and placed all bets on promotion. He gambled, lost and unfortunately in today’s results driven climate that means he’s gone. They totally bottled the last quarter of the season
Surely that's the ownership not Wilder?

On paper he was an average Championship striker. What happened if they got promoted?

It was a dreadful signing for a club with very similar strikers, I called it at the time.

Sheffield United who have signed Canon and BBD. Are they actually any better than Moore and Tyrese Campbell?

Sheffield United don't have a DoF but they do have a Head of Recruitment (Mike Allen), who is essentially Wilder's man and has worked with him for years.

Part of the reason why they are giving Wilder the boot is because their owners (COH) want to move towards a more data-based structure, which any well run club has already had in place for close to half a decade at this point.

I think it's safe to say Wilder has had a huge influence on recruitment there, given the current structure in place.

Pathetic signings in January, zero forward look and either way, they are saddled.

The bloke is an annoying cheddar helmet who has an over inflated opinion of himself.
