Chris Wilder

The Stadium announcer belting out the goalscorer's name, I'm sure that they don't usually do that until after any potential VAR check.

There will have been a massive outpouring of emotion and adrenaline from their team celebrating that non-goal, like a sign of relief that their job was done and the Wembley/Play-Off hoo-doo constantly spoken about in the build up was off their back. Hard to pick yourself back up after that one, for us on the other hand, we got that added impetus which brought us into the game more and more.

Then the magic of not actually trying in the games in the run up to the play offs which showed that in the closing stages of games, our lads seemed to have more legs and energy than the opposition. Even during Sheff United's wobble, they were pushing and pushing to finish on as many points as possible, where as realistically they could have had a few weeks on the beach like us.
Loved Wilder whinging at the end of the final, about having VAR - "we don't have it for 46 games, so we shouldn't have it for the final", which really means, "we've been getting away with this kind of cheaty shit all season, so why shouldn't we get away with it today".

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. He can go and whinge about the referees eating sandwiches elsewhere.

Up until about 35 minutes they were on a different level to us, we then levelled the battle 35-60 the last 40minutes barring a cirkin mistake we were the only team in it. We weren’t creating a lot but once we equalised they were wobbling like fuck. Also it’s a results business, and he’s failed, like he failed automatics losing some dollys then twatting Bristol city gave them far too much expectation to win easily v us and when it wasn’t buried they choked. A beautiful day was born
I kept saying to my mate, if we could just score a goal, they'd crumble and we'd win the match.

We brought on Roberts & Watson, and they lost Campbell & Hamer, and we grew visibly stronger as the game wore on, while they looked weary and out of ideas.

It would be interesting to look back to see if running across the view of the keeper was a tactic they'd employed during the season with any success, as Souza's movement was definitely deliberate. If he had ran straight out, rather than that step to the right, chances are the goal would have counted and he may have actually been onside anyway.

For all the expensive bench they could afford, they did fuck all with it. We, on the other hand, did.
During the season, Reg had been criticised for his reluctance to use his subs, when it was clear some of our players were out on their feet, but for me, he got it absolutely bang on, in that play off final.

I was at the final & was vocal, in wanting him to take off the ineffective Rigg & Neil, who struggled to make any impression in the game, and we were struggling to get any sort of a foothold in the game.

I wanted to see Roberts & Watson brought on, as they could run at the Sheffield defence and create a spark to get us back into the game.

Their contribution was huge, and they were instrumental in us turning the game on its head.

He bought Canon for £10M to get promoted. It was an abysmal short term signing. How was he going to do in the Premier League if they went up? He's nowhere near that standard.

He literally pissed £10M up the wall!
Can’t argue with that.
They ve got some good players, but never really looked like a team playing with a lot of freedom. I think they felt the pressure in the home straight. Maybe Wilder didn’t do a good enough job to try and keep their focus.

Great point...

He deserved the sack for his abject signings in January.

At the time I said I couldn't see the point of him signing Canon and BBD because they simply weren't any better than the likes of Moore, Campbell and the likes. He just padded out the squad instead of improving the first team.
i know it’s a well trod out argument but he massively overextended the club financially and placed all bets on promotion. He gambled, lost and unfortunately in today’s results driven climate that means he’s gone. They totally bottled the last quarter of the season

You had more optimism than me mate - well done - I saw us getting into the match on a more even footing but honestly couldn't see us making a breakthrough.

Though just before the final whistle I do remember thinking that if anyone was going to win in normal time it would be us.

Cannon was 10 mill plus wasn’t he?

That’s a bit much for a bench option for even a PL club with parachute money.

I was also amazed Rak Sayki didn’t make the bench for Wembley.

I was over the moon when I saw wilder hadn’t even picked him in the squad, and no he wasn’t injured.
Uproar on here cause we never went for him or Diaz 😂

Great point...
Didn't have to look far, in the 1st Leg of the Semi Final they had a goal correctly disallowed (without VAR) for Peck (in an offside position) blocking a defender from being able to clear the ball off the line from Campbells header. Don't hear about that one though as it didn't stop them from winning.

I've a feeling that it was part of their gameplay all season.

I think he was bought to play in the first team but his lack of ability meant he was a bit of a loose Cannon.

Bet that’s thrown the cat among the pigeons regarding the smoggy search for a new head coach

If I was a head coach I’d sooner gan to Sheffield than smoggy
