SOL expansion

That is how the owners will be planning. Fantasy land expecting an extension now

We need to improve the team with big money first
Stadium improvements no matter how big or small or definitely not a fantasy...A few thousand extra seats coupled with massively improved corporate areas which will bring in £millions of extra income and top tier music performers will pay for itself in no time.....Football stadiums are anything but a football stadium now, this is what has got to be embraced..its only used 20 times a year for 90 minutes so its got to have other functions which is what the club will be looking at moreso than the foorball side...

As said fantasy is a silly word to use for ambition...

'let build the biggest film studios in europe in Sunderland'...........few years later the builders are in building it..

Its just ambition mate and forward thinkin g, definitely not fantasy

Aye because they're exactly the same situation...

Biggest mistake they made in building the stadium was sinking the pitch below ground level. The space for concourses and corporate are massively impacted as a result. Went past the mags gaff the other day and the amount of people in and out of the big stand for a non-matchday was huge - loads of events going on that can generate revenue.
What event was it?

just going round in circles mate

theres always 2 definitions of 'what if'
I just don't think the club will have any interest in doing it, that's my point. Whether I think they should do it or not is irrelevant. People keep saying the club are looking at it etc but there's no proof. I just cant see them suddenly hoying £70m down for an extension.

fair point...its all about debate and opinions 👍

Sunderland has a population of 275k
Tyne and Wear population is approx 1.1m
County Durham's population is 530k
Northumberland is 320k

That's a fairly large catchment any for 2 PL clubs

I'd say now is the right time to extend the stadium

I remember when the new footbridge was first being talked about, my mate couldn’t believe that the council were being stupid enough to spend money on a new footbridge when it was only a 10 minute walk to use the current road bridge. The same lad couldn’t understand why so much money was being pumped into the Sheepfolds Stables as it was ‘in the middle of nowhere’.

Luckily he has no say in the development of the city and others have the ability to plan ahead.

the footbridge was rubbished my a load of naysayers, it was always that the wearmouth bridge is only 2 mins walk so whats the point...now that you see it, now that its built, now that you see how it fits in with the keel line, now that it brings the sheepfolds into the city centre, now that its bringing millions of investment in, now that it 'makes sense'....I dont think anybody is saying that its a bad idea!

feasibility studies, vision, ambition and forward thinking!

Youre making stuff up now. I don't think I've seen one person rubbish the footbridge. It was always seen by pretty much everyone as an excellent thing to do.

Also, absolutely no relevance to us extending the stadium.

Stop speaking sense, lets add another 10k seats on the off chance we might get into the champions league
We really need to stop being so blinkered by this being solely extra seats, mind. If you can't see that the stadium is falling woefully behind in the corporate side of things and we desperately need to catch up, then I don't really know what to say. The playing side of the club and the off the field side will be completely different budgets.

The semi final leg at the stadium was the first time in over a decade or more that we felt like a big, proper, professional outfit. Everything they did was perfect. Absolutely inch perfect. I can understand some pessimism given the shit we've had to endure but we have needed to get our act together off the field, business wise, for a long long time, and it finally looks like we might be tracking in the right direction. Improving the playing side goes without saying but that doesn't mean we stand still off the field. Improvements need to be made across the entire board. Just wish more people would embrace it, whatever it is

We could be int he championship again in 12 months. It's probably more than likely.

As if the ownership are going to invest tens of millions into seats that wouldn't be filled.
There’s a complete lack of ambition and aspiration in your posts. The club have a wonderful opportunity to take the club forward and compete at the highest level. The SoL would project this to the rest of the world .
