He's just being his usual negative club bashing self. He's also either ignoring or more than likely oblivious to the fact the away fans don't always sell out in the Championship but we can't sell their sections right next to them.
There’s just no need to extend/expand until demand meets supply, or at least gets close to it.
We need more hospitality because we’re close to full, especially in the more popular areas. We don’t need more standard seats.
They’ve been on sale for over 24 hours and it’s still dead easy to buy one. If we were needing extending they’d have gone in hours.
All probably down to the health and safety stuff along with access for the away fans given there's still knackers out there that like to cause trouble at matches. There's no way they'd put them back in the South Stand like they originally were as it would mean more mixing between supporters.
You think the club chose to not sell tickets? We know the fuck on we have with the people that run the security aspects of the club. You know being involved with the flags and stuff it’s not just the club being awkward they have others advising and calling the shots regards that stuff. You don’t need to leave as much segregation as we do, as proven by other grounds. That’s a club choice.
We’ve had 3 decent seasons in the top flight in my life time supporting Sunderland in 42 years. 3!They did for two season then the rest is history as we started the yo yo ing and then ended up in league wan for four years. If we’d had kicked on those first two seasons it was open our last 15 year or so would’ve been very different m. To get relegated was it a season or two after the extension did wonders for attendances![]()
It’s not now, I don’t even bother trying to get a drink or food as it’s not worth the hassle. It’s at the limit now. There’s what, 1,500 season tickets left? Any hospitality? Sold out in most places.
I’ve never said standard seats. Like anything any expansion isn’t about little plastic red seats. It’s about improving the offering, increasing hospitality areas and maximising revenue from fans, business owners and corporates.
The stadium will be no longer fit for purpose in 5-10 years with the concourses, hospitality areas unless they are improved and extended.
It all comes hand in hand. You seem to think it’s only seating
Don't forget standing, i think an expansion of that would be really handy. Obviously that would come out of existing seats not an extension, not sure if that's already happening? It’s at the limit now. There’s what, 1,500 season tickets left? Any hospitality? Sold out in most places.

Numerous, as in not very often? I guess you're right.but they did come....numerous times the stadium has been sold out.

I’ll also add there’s no chance of us competing with newcastle for concerts if they redevelop or move and we don’t do these things.
It needs to make money 365 days a year.

100% I go if I’m busting for a piss. It’s not now, I don’t even bother trying to get a drink or food as it’s not worth the hassle.
Pretty much started when another ground in the North East first started getting mentioned about being rebuilt. Genuinely think some people just want to expand it so it's bigger than the mags, the same people keep mentioning them in their posts so they're clearly in their mind when posting.
Have we been good? Not very often.Numerous, as in not very often? I guess you're right.
No, that's correct.Have we been good? Not very often.
In his defence we’ve never had a crowd of 49,000 or near it. 48,300 odd I believe is the SOL’s highest record crowd, and I’m sure that was before we used to say the capacity was 49,000. Even before the missile throwing started in League One, that reduced ‘real terms’ matchday capacity due to reductions in the away end, our sellouts in the Premier League long before this were always 47,000 odd.The capacity is still 49k though? We just chose to give up 2.5k since we never sold them anyway for segregation reasons. If you want the seats back, then sort out the segregation issues ie. move the away fans.
I don't see why a brick or block build and roofing would be that expensive likeExtending the concourses would be expensive but it’s achievable, especially the north stand.
I agree we need more corporate, better events spaces etc etc.
It’s because there are newer stadiums now and redevelopment plans afoot at a lot of clubs and we want to keep up or be better. It’s also because the stadium has deteriorated further over the course of the last 8 years. Plenty of people on here used to comment on the stadium being symbolic of Short’s latter days at the club; uncared for and unloved. Pink seats, rusting roof, discolouration everywhere, knackered speakers.
Not sure why it has to be viewed entirely through a ‘jealous of the Mags’ prism which IMO is short sighted and juvenile. Sunderland as a city is modernising and improving. Its biggest landmark should be as well.

For the Richardson mags free kick match, there was strangely barely any segregation between us and them. Look at Cisse’s goal and it proves it. Crowd that day was 47,900. Where was the 1,100 empty seats that day? It was packed to the rafters.
Other teams’ sell outs always seem to be only a few hundred short of their capacity, so can never understand how even before the recent away end restrictions ours were always a lot below the capacity. Even more baffling when one side of the away end needs no segregation because it’s up against a giant metal roof/wall.
