Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Our whole 'rebirth' started with Defoe coming back. the first time in years we had something to get excited about.
As we all know it didn't turn out as we hoped, but having a 'hero' for the first time in years sold tickets. Got out tails up.
Made us think there was a possibility - in league one - that we could go 'til the end',
that mentality got us to the play offs.
Henderson coming back would be a statement without being Saudi and chucking cash about.
Our club is rebuilding, and getting a local hero back would be great. I reckon he'd love to do it.

Hooe not. Not for footballing reasons I'd comment on that later. I'm against him returning as I don't want someone who sells soul to devil after setting themselves up as champion of minorities. That's not the example we should give to younger players.
f***ing hell man, I never believed that bullshit anyway.

LeB has always said that the dressing room organises itself.....who better to do that than Hendo....

No-one currently on the staff has any knowledge or experience of the PL....Hendo has that in spades.

BHH Speakers!
I think you're forgetting something...

I was thinking yeah bring him back its a no brainer but he will want massive wages and a 2 year deal at least so unless we can strike a good deal i would maybe swerve him and stick to the model

Nothing against him but would rather someone more physical with a bit of pace
I'd like to see what Triantis can do in pre-season. Good reports from Hibs. Him and Henderson could see the DM position sorted. Wouldn't be surprised if we sell Neil this summer.

This should be a 'test' for how much he really wants it?

After all his millions earned, does he really need to demand such huge wages? He could easily afford to sign for a much lesser amount.................IF he really wants it??

I'd like to see him back. I think his leadership and experience will be vital to a young team. Also, he doesn't have to be a replacement for Neil, as Neil could move forward with Jobe leaving (probably). A midfield 3 of Hendo (defensive), Neil, Le Fee could work.

How do you know this?

Simplistic Hypothetical example:
Offer him parity with ELF (current top earner)
Incentive if we stay up
2 year contract
Break clause option for both if we go down

If Hendo is genuinely interested in coming back it’s not going to be about money. He could easily get paid more elsewhere.

It’s surely more about finishing at his hometown club and going somewhere he can make a real contribution. He could make a huge difference on and off the pitch and, if he’s like any other Sunderland fan, there’s a massive feel good factor about the place right now. I can totally see the appeal from his point of view…or he could sign for Fulham or Rangers etc

I think they could include a potential coaching role at the end of his contract too. I suspect his playing involvement would only be a year / 18 months at best and he’d be of benefit to the club as much for his experience and professionalism as to what he can contribute on the pitch.

Potentially yes, although that might be for the future. Right now the club and player should probably only be thinking of him doing a job for the team next season.

As many have said this one is a no brainer. A deal that should be fairly easy to do and there are no compelling arguments against it.
