Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Helmer only played once, away at Leeds. Never really confirmed what went on there but a fallout with Saxton was rumoured.

How do I remember this stuff? Dunno it just sticks. Massive Lads Fan

Helmer came on in the arsenal gane. I’m sure of this as I was a big follower of German football.
You sure? Please let me be right!!

If the powers that be at the club have the answers to these questions and they think he's worth signing then I'll support him and hope that he does well and that the signing pays off.

If they decide not to sign him, I'm totally happy with that too.
Pretty much this

I can’t imagine that would have any bearing at all. None of the players or staff will give 2 hoots about that.
I wasn’t giving an opinion when I said “Saudi stuff aside” actually trying for the complete opposite as clearly has some differing opinions on this board that can get the discussion side tracked.

I don’t think the club would think it’s too big of a deal personally, but imagine they would take it into consideration. Just an opinion of course

Personally I have my own opinion, but was curious why other posters felt his career had taken the path it has.

Got you

Well Liverpool are performing at a level where they are competing directly with Man City. They have to churn their players proactively to stay there.
It was clear JH was going to be on the subs bench as part of a transition.
When Gerrard came calling with promises of riches and how he could change football in that country, JH naively bought into it and it was win win as the club got £20m for someone who had started going backwards as far as their standard was concerned.
I’ve no doubt JH could have played bit parts for some seasons to come if he had been happy with that.

Saudi was an aborration

Ajax was a great move? A Top team in that country, European football and away from the microscope of the Premiership and chance to play in another country.

Has anyone considered why first Liverpool let him go, he joined a pub league, went to Ajax and they’re now releasing him on a free?
Just curious like.
Dutch journalist quoted in this morning's Sunday Times eulogising about Henderson’s impact at Ajax this season.

“Henderson was key to Ajax’s Eredivisie resurgence before they were pipped to to the title by PSV. His best games were against PSV and Feyenoord in the league. He was extremely important in the comeback season of Ajax for his defensive role and his dominance of the ball. His greatest attribute has been his leadership and creating a professional culture”.

I thought it was a discussion board ? 🤔
But happy to leave it here.
You are blinkered by an Inescapable fact. There is actually no relevance whether a player has played for us before, the important thing is you do your due diligence as a club on him

BTW Robson, Cummins and Bracewell all played for us in the top division? So that rationale does not stand up to scrutiny.

Unless of course football history before the Premiership does not count in your head.
Which if it doesn’t gives you the grand total of 16 seasons to find your synergy. A period when failed transfers not involving ex players was off the scale for pretty much the same reasons.

He was still better than than many in that team for a time. But I accept it’s marginal, in which case he would fall into his legs had gone… which means lack of due diligence.
The Premier League is so far advanced from what existed before it.
😴🥱😴🥱

Says it all

Everything is relative, but to your point that’s exactly why you need a Jordan Henderson. The days teams got promoted and automatically competed at the top of the table have long gone.

Absolutely. No issue with that at all. If it had been on the grounds of him having been here before I think it’d be a weaker argument. And we have of course signed ageing players who have made zero or negative contribution (Alan Stubbs remains one of my most disliked signings for example).

It’s impossible to predict how the signing would turn out. I think a better discussion to have is risk vs reward. If he’s on a free and is willing to accept reasonable terms, would his signing have a detrimental impact on the team? My view is that it definitely wouldn’t. If he was signing on bloated wages due to his name and it impacts our recruitment elsewhere, then the risk vs reward dial shifts.

I agree with allow that. Under those circumstances it would not be detrimental. Worth a try as no risk.

I still don't think he'd add anything much to the team though.
