Durham Vitality Blast 2025

Why is Lees captain of the T20 side when he is so poor in this format?

Fantastic to get within six runs of their score in the end. Ultimately looks like it might be another poor season in the Blast.
It wouldn't surprise me if Lees ends up overtaking Colly as our highest ever FC run scorer and cements himself as a Durham legend.

But he's not good enough in the T20 format as an opener and his captaincy with bowling choices game after game infuriates and confuses the life out of me. McKinney who'd has the potential to be a much better opener in this format is going to be made to bat 7 and be the finisher

Gay only played 13 T20s so can't see him displacing Lees at the top either. Lees I think would do a better job in the middle overs as the one who accumulates and stays in while the other end is the one that tries to go.

We need someone to complement Clark explosiveness(ideally we also need him to reign it in when he's just hit two bloody sixes off the over and tries for a third!!!)

Agreed. As you say there is a roll for an accumulator (look at Kohli over the last few years) but there’s no way he should be batting in the power play.

Come in at 4 or 5 and anchor the innings.

Some good points here from Mackembhoy spot on re Clarkie, keeps hitting good 25s then gets out, he should focus on batting longer than just the powerplay , he could get 100s if his innings are paced and not thrown away... , Lees yes, middle order and we need to stop making the daft mistakes weve made for years in the competition ... ie Jennings batting at 10, Rhodes at 8, Jones at 7 ..... then contrastingly Raine opening or at 5.... so again yes, no Mckinney at 7 please, !!! Get these key decisions right and we could finally move forward in a competition that we have underperformed in for far too long.

Yep drop Lees get Ackermann captaining instead. Think Robinson would have been better opening here instead of Lees.

What the fuck is the point in Will Rhodes mind a non bowling number 8

Guy was a championship winning captain as a top 3 batsman. We've got him in the all rounder positions in both formats as a glorified 11th man.

Rhodes played well like

Wasn't the point I was making was more why is he batting behind Raine and Aldridge.

I know he's not played a boat load of T20 but he's a proper batsman.

I think it's poor treatment of the player sticking him at 8 for him not to bowl either. Basically saying your just making up the numbers until McKinney/Gay are back IMO.

Also De Leede or Minto would probably be better off playing too instead.

Him and Alrdridge showed the guys above them up big time. Were calm and then accelerated rather than going gung ho straight away.

Was a tight game. Only 3 gone, feel people being over critical like, this is t20. Small margins

Huge credit to Aldridge and Rhodes.

In my head the game was over but they somehow turned it into a competitive game.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the Leicestershire bowling either. They bowled pretty well and are a very good side and Aldridge and Rhodes didnt just slog their way back into the game but had to work hard and smart for their runs.

Leicestershire had an advantage bowling second as they could see that the best way to bowl was by taking the pace off the ball. That made it harder for us to hir the boundaries.

I don’t like to be negative but I’m not sold on Lees captaining or opening in this format.
It's not negative to have concerns about aspects of play. We're underachieving in T20, particularly our early batting, albeit our 2 defeats have been narrow. Offering alternatives to improve matters is being positive rather than negative.

I heard someone suggest Ackerman but I’ve not been impressed by him either

Purely because he captained Leicestershire for 3 years and we've other options to open.

I dunno who else you would give the captaincy gig too if Lees was dropped.

All somewhat moot anyway Lees ain't getting dropped or replaced as captain I don't think.

Anyone really like, Robinson, Clark, Raine etc

I actually think lees just a bit out of form. Even when getting runs his timing not been great.

I think if I had to pick an alternative, I would probably go with Ackermann just cos he has previous experience.

Robbo and Clark are suitable candidates but I'd rather leave them to concentrate on batting rather than have the added burden of captaincy.

Northants beat Lancs by 24 runs. 180/6 choosing to bat first with Lancs 156/9 in reply. Jimmy took 3/31

Leicestershire chose to field at Headlingley against Yorkshire who then put up 213/7. Leicestershire 20/1 off 4 in reply

Derbyshire chose to field at Edgbaston and have them 165/4 from 18

Table as it stands could do with Derbyshire winning to keep 3 sides below us. Then got a chance to close the gap above on Wed against Derbyshire.

I wonder if we make changes for the next game.

Surprised Bas isn't getting a game. I don't think he's on international duty.
