Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Didn’t realise we had a cut off at 35. De Foe was 39

And was terrible tbf, but he's not Defoe.

I can't stand the idea of experience for experience's sake, but this isn't that, he's the best player to come out of our academy, won everything at club level, a model professional that elite-level players not only listened to but asked for advice and a player that more than a few of our young starlets have name checked this season in reference to would either love to emulate or simply have a chat.

I understand the saudi stuff to a point, but take that away and there isn't any better "experience" available in world football and we're in a position to have him in a squad that could benefit massively from it because he's a local lad and loves the lad's.

I knar.

As I have repeatedly said he asked me what I did and what I had achieved ffs
Yeah, but I am just being the afore alluded to, twat. Hendo has, undoubtedly, blotted his copybook with the Saudi shenanigans, but, there has to be a shot at redemption for him, doesn't there?

I was well pissed with him when he did the Saudi thing. But I'm over that now. We move on.

I'm mixed on his return. I'm not sure his owld legs with two years away from the Premier league are what we need but there's no denying the incredible presence he would be for our young team. But old legs can still play a role as long as we're not expecting him to be box to box.

Erring on the aye BHH at the moment.

That's a leap, but OK. Different position. How many games did we get out of him? 20 or so before he broke completely?

As I've said, if the value is there and we protect ourselves then ok, but not on whatever he's on now, or indeed near it. he's never going to get better as a player, that's just a fact.
If he was asking for the money he’s been on for the last 10 years or so (or even close to it) there wouldn’t even be a discussion.

You have to assume, if it’s a goer, that Henderson would be coming here because he fancies the project and ending his career by trying to keep Sunderland up. I’d be surprised if it was any more than a 2 year contract on similar coin to whatever we are playing Le Fee.

He could play for nowt and his bank manager would not even notice.
I’d hope that he plays for basically minimum like.

Obviously it’s a job for him, I get that, but it’s his hometown team and we need that money to spend on other players, to try and stay up. He could change the course of our history if we stop up next season.

If he’s after money why would he sign for us anyway.

Maybe he didn’t need to tackle.
I’d be suspicious of a player who had high tackling stats.

He's going to need to if he comes here. We'll be in the trenches every week for 90 mins, it'll be a hell of a lot different to playing at the top of the league, seeing plenty of the ball.

If we were signing a different player who had won everything in the club game as a captain, appeared at multiple world cups and euros as a captain , and he'd come for less than the going rate, we'd all be very excited.

If our starting midfield 3 next season is Henderson, Bellingham and Le Fee, with Neil and Rigg as subs, I would be delighted with that.
Need to improve the wide areas, 1 x CF and LCB

Absolutely this. It’s is absolutely spot on. No brainer.

What we absolutely need to have next season are players who will look after the ball.

If you look at Soton, Ipswich and Leicester and the three the season below (most notably Luton) the number of goals conceded directly from losing possession or a poor touch in their box is frightening.

Southampton playing out from the back despite lacking the technical players to do so was insanity.

You have to have:
An almost perfect first touch now and have the football brain / awareness of what’s going on around you. Take a heavy touch near your box or misplace a pass in your own final third ( see jack Clarke vs Man City) and you might as well be taking a shot at your own keeper.

Which is why players like Le Fee, and hopefully Henderson will be invaluable. Not as ball winners, more ball retainers.
