there's also a great myth that not a lot of people know, or admit to. He always goes on about how newcastle was his only choice once they came in for him, what he fails to tell everyone, and the geordies fail to acknowledge, is that he'd agreed to go to man utd, but blackburn refused to sell him to them, and jack walker basically said to him, you're either going to newcastle or you're staying here. Walker hated man utd and apparently it was "over his dead body" he was going there.

But that spoils the geordie narrative of shearer turning man utd down. Which is still a strange thing to sing at man utd fans to this day, considering the amount of trophies they won without him, whilst newcastle won, checks records, fuck all with him.
