Boro thread

All bigger clubs than boro in more desirable locations with bigger fanbases.
Desirable locations I'll mostly give you, although we do have the North Yorkshire coastline and the North Yorkshire Moors on our doorstep.

Players who sign for the club are hardly going to buy a house in Grangetown or South Bank are they.

Née Boro lover but some of them you have named are not “ bigger “ than Boro
Fulham ?-Brighton?-Bournmouth ?
All more desirable locations in a better league tho. I'd rather live there and play for them than Grovehill and

I know I live there, it's not middlesbrough though. I remember when Ravanelli wouldn't let his kids go to the riverside because of the smog and potential disease.

My brothers marra was in the bookies one day in smoggy & he could hear this foreign language from a group of lads next to him who was it but Ravenelli betting on the dogs doing 65p roll ups 😆

Probably demanded it with gold leaf on top and fed to him.

Are now
Surely it should mainly go on history? Might as well say Bournemouth are bigger than Sunderland if we're going off recent history.

If we go off history then Boro are bigger than Palace, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton. Could make an argument for us being bigger than Ipswich as well.

History? Boro? You've won a league cup in Wales vs Bolton and came 3rd once. Sunderland have 6 titles, 19 top 3 finishes and fa cups plus nearly 90 seasons in the top tier it's not comparable, plus attendances than blow all those clubs out of the water.

Palace have just won an fa cup, are based in London and have a decent fanbase currently, so bigger than Boro. Bigger than Ipswich? They have won cups and european trophy plus a bigger fanbase than boro. Brighton are established now. Fulham because of geography are fashionable. I'll give you Brenford and Bournemouth you're bigger than them.

Wrong. I posted it on 28th August.

You'd won the first 3 games of the season at that stage, and we'd won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1, hence why many on here were taking the piss.

The season before you'd lost the first 2 games and then went on a run, which had you placed well above Boro in the table. Many were taking the piss and I'd made the point that it was still early into the season and advised posters on here not to get carried away. In the end you finished 16th.

So again, going back to my post you were referring to, I was just responding to the pisstaking posts by reminding people that you'd got carried away the season before after making a strong start and it had backfired. It felt foolish at that time to be getting carried away but as I've said, the season just gone it became obvious as the season progressed that you were genuine promotion contenders this time around.
Fancy that eh, fans getting carried away & excited about our chances? So what are you expecting us to say, we’ll blow it & be fighting relegation? 🤣 thats why we come on here for a bit of positivity & optimism

I wasn't comparing Boro to Sunderland.

Regarding a comparison between Boro and Palace. We've both won one trophy. Palace have only had 24 seasons in the top flight, we've had 61. Palace have had 37 seasons in the third tier and 33 in the fourth. We've never been in the fourth tier and have only had 2 seasons in the third. We also have a higher average attendance hisorically.

Ipswich have won more trophies but only had 26 seasons in the top flight. Brighton just 11 and no trophies. Fulham 29 and no trophies.

It's not all about trophies regarding determining what makes a club big.

Surely you have to go off a club's history when determining a size of a club, otherwise you might as well say Palace are bigger than Sheff Wed (they're not).

Well you certainly didn't stay in the championship last time you had parachute payments 😜.

End of the day though, you ended up going up (this year) because you deserve to.
Up towards the top all season and worked the play offs exactly how it should be approached.

Granted there's gonna be some fans that are 'jealous' or whatever, but most folk I know are more frustrated that other clubs (including but not just Sunderland) have managed to build and get promoted while we haven't .
To me, it was obvious that we weren't good enough - you were so fair play for that.
Your club and manager have worked the whole season well and are up because you deserve to be.
You've obviously been far better than us - league position, end result and both matches against each other proves that.

Said before on here, considering you didn't have the parachute payments this season (and after last seasons finish), I reckon your manager/head coach should be a shoe in for championship manager of the season.
could be a fish but i believe we didnt have parachute payments when we were relegated. its reported the new owners used them to buy the club off short

Boro have become a really consistent championship team. Seem to never really have enough to go up or be bad enough to go down. Only 1/17 seasons outside the championship.

Not at all. At the time I was merely warning posters on here that you'd got carried away the season before following a positive start, and ended up nowhere near the playoffs.

It felt a bit premature to be getting carried away 3 games into the season, but as the season progressed it became obvious that you were genuine promotion contenders, so that optimism was justifiable.

worry about boro mate.... two turds what you think

You received parachute payments , as did Boro and Hull.
Your clubs decision on how to use them doesnt mean you didnt receive them, surely?

not if they were not invested into the club no. we didnt get them... they previous owners walked away with a nice wad of cash without spending a penny i believe/ perfectly legal as well, but to suggest we really ever had them, considering you knew nothing about the situation until i told you
