Durham v Somerset (h) 23/5/25

Well my run continues to 5 thread starts on the bounce after that Well deserved attritional win against Nottinghamshire.
Another very quick turn around but at least it's a home game so no travelling day which will help. As far as the Durham starting Xl goes i can't see many changes being made and hopefully the 4 seamers got through the last game OK especially Carse coming back from injury and Minto due to age restrictions on overs he can bowl.
I suppose the elephant in the room is Bedingham who if he is fit will be desperate to play probably mostly in prep for South Africa. He is quite simply our best batsmen but who do you leave out but if you don't play him do you "huff" him. I hope they don't fudge the issue by leaving one of the bowlers out to get him in the Xl. On these Riverside wickets this season we need 5 front line bowlers to share the work load.
Somerset like us have had a mixed season with a slow start but two wins on the bounce. They look a decent county outfit with possibly Leach and Overton as their danger men.
Should be another hard fought game on a pitch similar to the Notts encounter.

I know which of the batsmen should be 'rested' to make way for Bedders but of course we were told back in November that he'll be playing in just about every game.

Do you not think we'd drop a bowler, most likely Minto? (From the team who played yesterday?)

And if Bedingham is only available for one game would we change the team?

It felt that the line up for the Notts game was the most 'balanced' of the season with Clark at 6 and Carse at 7 (even though of course with Minto's heroics they came in further down the order:D).
It looks like this extraordinary dry spell may be coming to an end for the Somerset game which could liven things up so maybe Driss steps down.

If Bedders is fit to play he starts everytime for me.

Been that way for years mate.
It seems to be worse now. It's difficult to justify why Potts had to be rested. The cynical amongst us would think that the ECB will do what they can to weaken Durham during the CC. It would be interesting if, lets say, Surrey had to win their last game of the season and wanted to play Gus Atkinson who is fairly nailed on to be in the Ashes squad.

Potts is an ECB employee not a Durham one. In one of the games he missed he was replaced by Carse, also an ECB employee. The problem is that Durham haven't adequately replaced them but that's not an easy task.
Also gives an opportunity for promising academy products but they needed to be carefully nurtured.
