The golf thing

For us non-golfers, what does that mean? Good or shite?
0 are what professionals are and a load of top amateurs.

Really good players are between 0-10
Good players between 10-20
Rest of us 20+

It just means how many shots you are given if you play against a better player. Just levels up the playing field. That's why a load of players lie about how good they are. It's in their interests to give themselves a higher handicap.

If Crawley is indeed playing off 1 then he is frigging good. Getting that good needs practice, dedication and above all playing regularly. He obviously plays a hell of a lot.

It'd be interesting to see the rest of the England players handicaps. Just to see how much time they do spend on the golf course, if nothing else.

Who assigns the scores out of interest? Or is it self-assigned?

As a top ball-related sportsman golf skills will come naturally. Obviously he'll have to play fairly regularly to maintain the handicap, but I don't think it follows that he must play an excessive amount.

Yeah I can see your point. Biometrically, the on drive in cricket does resemble the golf swing somewhat. Makes sense if you're good at cricket you'll be good at golf, and vice versa.

But, I've yet to see a near enough scratch golfer who doesn't play loads mind. Putting, chipping, driving, irons etc all need loads of practice to maintain a low handicap imo.

I'm sure the England squad are talented at playing with their balls  but if Crawley is playing off 1 and not playing golf excessively. He's in the wrong sport.

I've a feeling he may be reverting to golf as his number 1 sport earlier than he'd planned.

They’ve made the rod for their own back unfortunately.
Not really, it’s only because people blow everything out of perspective and want to twist about something.

They may have talked about their hobby.

So what??

Any rational person can see they give everything on the pitch especially the captain

‘They may have talked about their hobby’

Have you missed every single interview they’ve given in the last 3 years? Golf is mentioned in every one of them pretty much. Don’t be surprised when it gets people’s backs up if the results/performances aren’t great.

And any rational person can see that the quips on here are tongue in cheek and not to be taken literally.
I refer you to McCullum's comments#20 on this thread and you might just see that self confidence can easily come over as arrogance.
This perceived arrogance invites criticism albeit in the form of quips about golf. Supporters are the hand that feeds them, handsomely.

Looks like Rob Key is getting interviewed live on SSN from a golf course
This is what does my head in the most to be honest. They know the conjecture around golf, yet he is constantly getting interviewed on the golf course. He’s either thick or trying to take the piss. The obvious thing to do would be to do interviews anywhere but, just to avoid fuelling the fire.

What’s wrong with playing golf?

Totally perplexed by that comment.

Previous to this regime England had one 1 in 17 tests playing dour cricket

Under this regime they have won 22 out of 35 playing a entertaining brand of cricket

That’s the bottom line, some people and looks like you just want to twist about something!!

Something that’s done off the cricket field and in their down time!!

It’s utter nonsense you making a issue out of it

It’s made a issue out of nothing because people like twisting!
