Durham v Notts (H) 16/5/25

Well hopefully started the thread a bit early to keep at least the unbeaten run going with our home fixture against table topping Notts.
After a two game road trip which resulted in a win at Worcestershire and a draw at Hampshire both on wickets not fit for 1st class cricket although at different ends of the spectrum. I personally think a win and a draw was a good return after a slow start to the season.
With regards to Friday even before a ball is bowled I'm very interested to see who makes our starting Xl. It looks from the outside that the coach and skipper have some big decisions to make with what looks like plenty of options.
As far as the seam bowling goes I believe the two loaners have returned to their respective counties but Durham still have options especially if Carse is fit to play as the coach hinted at after Hampshire match.
Also some big decisions to be made in the batting line up with the possible return of Mckinney and Bedingham available for selection. From my point of view I hope they don't smudge the issue by playing 6 specialist batsmen and Robinson.
Looking at Notts they have got off to a great start to the season and are definitely in the title race. It looks like their pace attack has been hit with injury and in fact played two spinners in their last match although their 3 seamers won the game.
Well hopefully we get a decent wicket and it should be a good contest with the weather set fair.

If these are fit and available i would go with
Lees
McKinney
Gay
Akkerman
Beddingham
Robinson
Clarke
Raine
Carse
Potts
One from Drissel/Parkinson if a spinner played
Or with another seamer one from Yusuf/Dogget

Pretty certain Potts will be unavailable with the test following 2 days after this game finishes so
Lees
McKinney
Gay
Bedingham
Ackerman
Robinson
Carse
Raine
Yusuf
Hogg/Minto
Parkinson.

Very harsh on Clarke but that's a very strong batting line up.

Rhodes to play in the stiffs to get some form ready for the white ball stuff?

Tricky as Carse usually bats 7

Wonder if Ackerman is at risk just for this 1 game
Agree if Carse plays he should bat no higher than 7.
I have got a feeling they may leave out Bedingham. The bowling is more if an issue than the batting and if Potts is not available then we probably need the two overseas bowlers.

Think you should name a spinner, especially if it's a good pitch and not wanting to bowl the quicks into the ground.

I'd really consider giving Bedingham some extra recovery time and playing Clark.
I'm not sure about Gay at 3. He got a bit of that Caribbean flair about him which is nice to see, just not in a no 3 or 2 when substituing for an opener. I mean he looks more of a Lara than a Richards or a Haynes. Just imho.
Still if not him, in the no 3 spot I don't know who else.

Jake Ball and Jack Blatherwick have returned to Somerset and Lancashire after their 14-day loan spells whilst Brendan Doggett’s Durham stint has also come to an end after nine wickets in three appearances.

Can't drop Clark, and Ackermann has done nothing since the opening game. Rhodes has offered little too but his bowling is more threatening at least.

I think that could possibly be the Xl but personally would prefer another front line bowler instead of Rhodes. Carse is more than capable of batting at 7.
