I wouldn't agree 4th in the 2nd tier is a good season. We should aspire to more.

It’s certainly not “hurtling towards relegation” though is it? The 3 teams above us had the 3 biggest, best and most expensive squads in the league, before a ball was kicked nobody was tipping us for automatic promotion. We have certainly not underachieved over the course of the 46 games.

Definitely not but 5 losses off the bounce at the end of the season is a worry.

Yeah of course it is, it’s not ideal, but the season is 46 games and we have finished on our highest points tally in this league since 2007 and our highest league finish since 2017, we haven’t went backwards under RLB (apart from since March) so I think people need to look at the bigger picture.
If he doesn’t get us up, and we start the season slowly and aren’t in playoff picture after a couple of months, then he will deservedly be under pressure.

What a team cost is not always where they finish..your making excuses for the ineptitude of those in charge. Luton went down with money, as we did too! Aiming for top spot if the minimum for safc in the second division.

That’s just delusion. We are in no way entitled to be winning the championship. Christ we were a PL club battling relegation every year bar the odd few years ffs

If we get beat in playoff semi final I’d be very surprised if RLB wasn’t sacked. No chance people will put up with this dull, negative boring football next season.
All true. It’s been better, however the season has finished in exactly the same manner as the previous one - we just had more points on the board this time and the collapse occurred a month later.
The club needs to look at why this has happened again. Is it simply a case of over reliance on the same players or are there other reasons? It can’t simply be down the RLB has he wasn’t here last season.

weve gone from pressing to plodding. we started off on the front foot by attacking teams and moving the ball quickly and putting the opposition on the back foot and forcing errors. We now spend a lifetime passing across our own penalty area fannying around at the back until we make a mistake. midfield have slowed the game down beyond recognition more suited to playing Ekwah. Everyone in the division knows that if they pump enough high balls into our box we will crumble but, we back off and allow it to happen. we play more in our half than we do in theirs which is a complete contrast to the season start. I hope regis has a trick up his sleeve because we look beaten already. We virtually have the same players bar clarke so we know that they are capable. It must be solely down to tactics.
I’d agree 5 losses in a row is a worry. I did agree with resting squad players and still think that’s valuable, so some of those losses I wasn’t too arsed about, but the last two have raised eye brows.
Results aside, I think it’s more concerning that we have gone from what was a high pressing, high energy team to what we are now. We have fallen away in performance since February that’s true.
RLB has however done a great job this season overall, not sure how you can argue otherwise by getting us play offs guaranteed a month and a half before season end with a meagre transfer spend and youngest team in the league.
The most important thing now however is that we have a ticket for the playoff lottery and it’s up to RLB to galvanise the team to make the most of it. If he succeeds then brilliant, if he falls short then I think he will need a very strong start to the next season again to keep his job as losing those 5 games on the bounce won’t be forgotten going into the next season.

I think he would deserve at least 8-10 games next season before any decision on his future was made, regardless of how the next 2, or 3, games go.

I wouldn't disagree in terms of him deserving it. However, if the play offs come around and it ends up that we're not just managing fitness and suspensions, and we look just as bad against Coventry even with arguably our first choice side, I wouldn't mind if the board were brave and decided to make a change if they identified someone they thought was more suited to the job of getting us up. I actually think we'll surprise people in the play offs, but if not then they'll need to have a good think about what the right move is

We have gone backwards pretty much from the mid season mark. The regression under him since that point is a huge concern.
The football since the turn of the new year is arguably the dullest football I've ever seen from a Sunderland side. And i will be exceptionally worried about us next season if he's in charge.

Let's deal in facts not in airy-fairy hypotheses - if you look at the form table for the last 10 games - we've managed to get 7 points and we are 23rd out of 24.
Two 1-0 wins and a 0-0 draw. Do you think that is acceptable?

Because people were writing the season off before a ball was kicked, saying we would be in a relegation battle. How is that hard to understand?
Anyone who expected us to finish top 2 must have been delusional, I am very happy with being the 4th best team in the league over 46 games, although I’m not happy with the form since the beginning of March.

I get where you're coming from but that would totally derail our season if he started poorly imo. Better to get someone in early who can work with the players over summer.
