Test squad Zimbabwe (and let’s make it the match thread)

Haines/McKinney
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Atkinson
Farhan
Tongue
Cook

Cox, Lawrence and Potts in the 14. Maybe even Sonny Baker over Potts.

But let’s face it, Crawley and Bashir will play. They fancy Crawley in Aus. Pope’s lucky Bethell’s at the IPL.

Cook’s lack of pace is a worry, but he’s clearly very skilled. His FC record demands selection.

I wonder what it is with Haines? Reminds me of Hildreth in so much that he always seems to score loads of runs and never gets considered. I wonder if they see something in his games that they think would get easily exposed against higher quality bowling?

picking Bashir and Crawley is liking playing with 9 men Crawley has one 50 on good knows how long.

I don’t think Bashir will ever be good enough but our spin cupboard is very bare indeed sadly.

This is his first ever season in div 1 and he’s not knocked the door down either before that

Talented player but not convinced he should have played for England yet

He took nearly 50 wickets last year like

Sorry like it’s not like playing with 9 men at all

Not a bad lineup.

Surely we use this game as a opportunity to blood a couple of younguns Into test crocket? Rather than picking tried and tested players. Zimbabwe whilst are handy should pose no problem to a youthful England side.

I think he’s a right handed version of Monty yes he’s young but he seems to bowl the same pace constantly.

Plus he bowls to straight for me and does not bowl an attacking line outside off stump.

He would have to improve a lot to me a very good international spinner.

Not a bad shout. He's tall and got bucket hands like Monty too. Time tells if he can acquire some guile He's going to need. Like a lot of posters I'm not convinced. Open to be pleasantly surprised if he comes off though.

Im not saying I would play him But the criticism is way over the top

Taking near odd 50 test wickets in a year is impressive

People talking like he has the yips or something

Defs lacks guile yeah you get that through experience

They think give him that experience whilst playing test cricket I guess

I might not have anyone who agrees with me but I think McKinney should stay with Durham a while longer before moving up to test level.
I think he'd benefit spending more time playing competitive 1st class cricket as an opener before entering the cauldron of Test cricket.
So many openers are tried and fail at England level, it's not like more time will mean he'll miss his chance.

Yeh,I'd agree with that sentiment but,if chosen,it'll only be for the 1 test and will serve as a gentle taster for more sterner tests in years to come.

Im with you totally

I’d pick him in the 50 over stuff for England but that’s it

Agree, feels like a good chance to look at McKinney, Farhan etc. Zimbabwe are improving, but shouldn’t cause us too much trouble at home (famous last words).
