Getting promoted - do we actually want it?

Yes, I want it, because it would be an achievement and a fantastic day out at Wembley for the supporters (gutted I’d miss it as I’m in Florida).

If we don’t, after the initial sting of defeat I wouldn’t be too perturbed.

I’m in not just two minds but several.

Aliens have very cunningly fired a massive invisible ray beam at Earth and have seemingly reconditioned the entire population of people to believe “the promised land” of the Premier League is the be end all of life in football, this amazingly beautiful sporting nirvana, we must aspire to live in when in fact it is not.

We have seen time and time again how much effort is required just to be good enough even get a point out of a game considering what meagre budget promoted clubs are given to work with in the transfer market. The massive affluent clubs are the only ones capable of going after players of that level. The rest are not good enough. I’m not just talking about the world class players in clubs like Liverpool but the players who the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth have. I don’t know what players both clubs have, I couldn’t name a single one, but they are good enough to put them where they are in mid table.

Now it takes from KLD a superhuman amount of time and mental and physical effort just to keep us up in the Championship each season. Even then it hasn’t exactly been a masterclass of club ownership. I dread to think what it would require from him to do the same for just one season of Premier League football.

not even a little bit. but if the ultimate aim is to stay up in the premier, I fail to care. join the ranks of teams hoping to finish above 18th and below 7th. f***ing fun.
The alternative is to plod along in the 2nd tier. We're either a sporting venture (which means we should be aiming to be as good as we can be and actually achieve something) or were merely a player farm and we should level with a fan base who wouldn't want that, no matter what some may say.

Of course want to go up, it'll most likely be horrible and depressing to watch the season after we do but the extra money will (hopefully) mean those promising youngsters we bring in are of a better quality and less injury prone

We have to go up to improve. We need the PL money and it will allow us to keep some of our players for longer and sell at a higher price if they've performed for a year in the Premier League. I'd fully expect us to get battered and come straight back down but it's a necessary struggle for the longer term benefit of the club.

I just hope everyone remains realistic if it happens and stick with the players. It can't get toxic, we know we'll lose the majority of games it's the way it is now. But being sensible with the money we get and then if/when we go down we've also secured the parachute payments that will allow us to bounce back up again a year later in (hopefully) far better shape to stop up.

If we go up, we will almost certainly come straight back down, but that will be whenever we go up next time.
These days the only way of getting up and staying up, is go up once, suffer the relegation, but invest the premier league earnings and parachute payments well, then go up again but stronger.

Watching the Premier highlights and seeing Ipswich put up no fight against the Mags, I’m not sure how we go from getting turned over by Oxford and Blackburn to competing with established Premier League teams in a couple of months.

This team has some talent but it is miles off being able to compete in the PL. I honestly wouldn’t mind another season in this league and letting the young players develop and hopefully continue to improve.

I’m not sure I would enjoy a season of getting battered like Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton have had. Maybe these last few weeks are just sucking the life/positivity out of me.
We really need to get promoted. Players with talent will step up.

Our better players will be happy to remain here as they are playing at the top level.

The owner will see financial rewards which can be ploughed back into improving the squad.

Our profile will be raised making us a more realistic option for players of higher quality to come and play for us.

It’s rubbish being in the lower leagues. We need to be in the top flight.

I would prefer promotion but you make a good point.

We would for the financial gain but we'd have to be prepared for vicious tonking after vicious tonking week in week out.
This is the reality.
We could go back to the late 90’s early 00’s. Up and down every other season.
As a business it’s the best thing but as a spectator it’s miserable being thumped every week. Hoping for a draw against most clubs

No but we need it. Daft if you think otherwise. It’s a massive financial injection and puts us at a massive advantage in the championship

Let's just bounce around between mid-table championship and failing in the play offs. Sounds fun.

Seriously we just need to have a go of it. If we come straight back down then deal with it and use the money to go back stronger. Surely the whole point of following the lads is to see us compete at the highest level we can?
What doesn’t sound fun; is getting promoted and never getting out the bottom three and hoping to get 4 wins all season.
