He should have done a better job then. I don't care about the personal wealth of Ellis Short. I do care about SAFC, and he was by far the worst owner we have ever had. Nobody else has taken us so far down the pyramid as he did.

No. I’m saying its resale value is higher than any of Shorts squads which given we’re in the Chanpionship is pretty outstanding work from our friend Speakman.

But he’s also the owner that spent the most money, yet people are crying because we’re not doing that now.

Spending other people’s money is easy.

Spending it effectively is extremely difficult.

Which is exactly the point I made on the first page of this thread.

Anyone who defends Ellis Short's time at Sunderland can only be doing so because the only thing they look at is how much money an owner chucks at a club, and that's a ridiculous way to judge owners.

No I don't, thanks. Ellis Short is the only owner we have ever had who has taken the club two levels down from where we were when he bought us. The only other owner who ever took us to League One at all had already taken us back out, at the first time of asking.

I think you’ve listed pretty much every player we made a profit from under Short.
I do agree though, for a period the squads in the premier league would have had higher valuations but we signed some utter shite for big money.
What I would say about the current squad is that we have much better value for the money we have spent.

That's not what he said though, this squad is not worth as much as the majority of our squads under Short.
It's not even up for debate.

Some nugget even said this squad is better than any squad under Short ffs.

They tend to go hand in hand in the long run. Increase the value of the squad and it's hard to not get better in the league table.

I do feel like we're building on solid foundations under this owner. Pretty strong financial position, making improvements to the stadium/club shop, thinking long term with our signings. I personally think it's better than Short getting us into more and more debt every year trying desparately to survive in the PL. But I'm not gonna argue this squad of players is better than any from 2008-2016, for example.
 
This my dads bigger than your dad is pointless really.Short tried and failed it cost him 150mil.This owner has yet to show me that he has any ambition at all.He will sell players this summer for large amounts by our standards regardless of which Div we are in.So lets see how the money is used.

Not the first to say they go fir a day out. That's sad when you think about what a football club should be. I want to watch a team that is doing everything it can to be as good as it can be. As far as the league above goes, many have a go whilst out of it but would change once in it. We can only worry about staying up if we got there. The mags, forest and villa were promited fairly recently and all are in or around the Champions league. Leicester have won the fa cup and league in the last 10 years. If you tell yourself your beaten before you start that's exactly what you'd be. The club would need to change how it operates, something I don't think they want which is why I believe they don't want promotion. But it's certainly big enough to sustain premier league football long term.

Improvements to the stadium are surface scratching IMO.

It needs way more attention than I think the owners will give it
