PAT Testing

So sanity has prevailed as got a quote back for £365, which is more like it. Jerry and Tom are coming the day after next and will PAT test all my appliances.

You can’t be too careful in this game and for £365, I’ll sleep like a log knowing everything is safe and sound.
You do know that a PAT test only means that appliance is safe when it is tested? The very next day it can develop a fault. Just like an MOT it is a snapshot of the day it was tested. Just go for an upgraded consumer board and that will detect a fault 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If this is true, you are getting your pants pulled down.

You do know that to be a PAT tester, it doesn't take more than 1 days training?

They are hardly experts but you seem to be paying them £100's per hour.

In 51 years we've never had anything at home pat tested and we've been ok even with dodgy 70s and 80s leaky done by a bloke me dad knew. Current house and still no pay test. I'm happy taking my chances.

Exactly. Plus they will not be testing the outlets the appliances are plugged into, as you need an electrician to do that and the PAT testers will probably not be electricians.

Been quoted £2k to get all electrical devices in the house PAT tested. Seems high to me, I do this every few years and I’m sure last time it was only £300-400, which is reasonable.

Anyone know anyone who can do this in East Boldon? Usually takes about a day, but provided the kettle is PAT tested first, you get unlimited cups of tea (not actually unlimited, accepting anymore than 3/4 teas is greedy and rude).

£2k for a house of appliances :lol::lol::lol:

Sure it was £1 an appliance back when I was training to be a spark in 2010.

First time ive ever heard of anyone getting their home appliances PAT tested mind. I do it on site from time to time as it is a legal requirement. Ops a whopper by the sounds of it.

Glad to hear you're sorted.

Have you double checked your hazmat suit? Wouldn't want to be picking up any germs from Tom & Jerry coming in your house.

What’s whopping about following recognised H&S practice to make sure your home is safe??

I mean if it was your job anyway and you already had the equipment then fine. Paying someone to check if the wires are connected properly and the cables and plug is okay 🤣
