Reported as a while back...

AI Overview

The new pedestrian and cyclist bridge in Sunderland, part of the Riverside Sunderland development, will indeed include 5G technology. The bridge will be a "smart bridge" integrating technology to create interactive experiences for users. This includes features like augmented reality displays, and the 5G network will be a critical part of enabling these digital enhancements.

Here's a more detailed look:
  • "Smart Bridge" Features:
The bridge is designed to be a "smart bridge," using technology to enhance the user experience. This includes interactive lighting, augmented reality displays that can be viewed through smartphones, and potentially other digital elements.

  • 5G Integration:
The 5G network will be essential for enabling these digital features. It provides the necessary connectivity and bandwidth for real-time data transmission and interaction.

  • Riverside Sunderland Development:
The bridge is part of the larger Riverside Sunderland regeneration scheme, which aims to create new homes, offices, and cultural spaces.

Sun shining today so blew the dust off the drone and got a few shots and a couple of vids of the bridge and surrounding area, construction skills academy, eye infirmary etc.

Great to see the regeneration.

I'm pathetically excited by this bridge mind. It really is unbelievable that something of this scale is being built in Sunderland, it's so, so difficult to get anything like this built. It's going to be transformational. Can't wait for it to open!

Really grateful to @yamar1 and @RestlessNatives for the regular drone shots. It's history in the making and brilliant to see it all documented in HD.

Thanks for that, appreciate the comment.👍🏼

Its great fun for us as a hobby and also good for people who aren't up here to see it all come together. We'll definitely keep it going as it seems quite popular.

I have an odd fascination with bridges - was in Sunderland last month and looked across to the new bridge in construction as I walked across to town and was gutted it wasn't open for me to wander across it. Looked impressive mind, next time I am back hopefully be sorted.

When it was first mentioned I wasn't that bothered as I thought it was nearer to St Mary's but as it has started taking shape I've become its number one cheerleader.
The drone was bought for a totally different purpose but this is where at least 50% of my drone flying takes place.
Walked over to the Sheepfolds earlier and was mumbling to myself about what an effort it was to walk over the Wearmouth Bridge. Still only 25 minutes from my house to Propa but knocking ten minutes off that will make all the difference.
