Man City - 115 Charges

Just been reading and article about the Man City 115 charges case & the fact that the odds of them being relegated have fallen from 16-1 to 12-1 seems to indicate that an announcement will happen soon.

Putting aside us getting retroactively awarded the 2014 League Cup & it taking the shine off those lot up the road, surely this means that it's more important than ever that we go up this season? I'm assuming that City would come down in a 3 with Southampton & probably Leicester and that they'd be promoted again next season, leaving up to half a dozen teams vying for the other automatic space, nevermind the play offs.

Would they also have a points deduction next season too, just like Sheffield United, as anything else would surely just be unfair on those already in the Championship, making promotion next year much harder?

Maybe having 3 + Man City come down and 4 go up this season would be fairer (as long as we're one of the 4).
If that’s the case you want to meet 3rd place team @ Wembley in the playoffs….

They'll get a non punishment which is dressed up as a punishment. Like a 30 point penalty, implemented this season, which means that instead of finishing 6th and qualifying for the Conference League, they finish 17th. Affecting absolutely nothing.
110% ^^^ they'll lose no trophies either

There’s not a chance city eill be relegated

The FA need to ‘look tough’ & City need to know there’s little or no impact on their long-term aspirations.

So expect to see some kind of contrived, ‘no losers’ outcome whereby City spend the millions they’d set aside for a prolonged legal battle on grassroots football (dressed up as a severe financial sanction) - and a points deduction that has no tangible impact on them in real terms (they might quite fancy a season in the Europa league while they’re redeveloping the team).

The FA will make out it’s the biggest sanction taken in footy history, City will deny any wrongdoing & the whole thing will rumble on while the likes of Chelsea & Saudi FC analyse the small print to see what they can now get away with, too.

Cynical? Yeh, too right. I’d like to see them smashed into oblivion & others the same (like Saudi FC) but our pathetic little appeasers in the FA really aren’t capable of doing that.

Kieran Maguire on Price of Football reckons that the PL and EFL, being separate entities for these things, means Citey cant be automatically relegated (like Juve in Calciopoli) but a huge points deduction might lead to it. Cynically, the points deduction might just be such that they dont drop into the bottom three
This is a really important point that can’t be overlooked. They may be relegated by a points deduction but they won’t just ‘be relegated’

They’ll never punish Man City to that extreme as they know Man City carry a lot of money/power with them(owners wise) same with Chelsea, the mugs etc,if you’ve got money you’ll never be punished as they’re all in on it when it comes to the premier league/government,but if you’re Everton,Leicester ,sheff United ,reading,Birmingham, Coventry,Portsmouth etc…well that’s different….🤷🏻‍♂️has no one ever noticed that as soon as boris wanted the Saudis in then one had to go…? That one was abramovic…🤔

Even if the league have them bang to rights, the punishment just isnt going to be severe unfortunately.

It will invite legal challenge which will drain the PLs resources and will be like pocket change to City.

An out of court settlement is the most likely outcome here.

Personally, if i had to settle (eg not relegate them) id be looking at a points deduction so they finish 17th, and an obscene fine (which could even be distributed between the PL clubs).

Ideally theyd be thrown into non league.

For the excitement, I’d love them to start next season with a 50-60 point deduction. The way the promoted clubs have performed, they’d probably still stay up!
