Jack Clarke

Feels like they’ve just done who’s good in the championship take a punt if we go back down at least we’ll have a good championship side. Like you say doesn’t play their style at all.
It does, the Clarke deal made no sense, they must have been struggling to bring players in so just thought they’d buy anyone.

I think Bayern have a lot to answer for.
Kompany proved his ideas worked in a fairish fight when Burnley got promoted with PP money. In an unfairish fight in the PL not so much. But he could always turn around and say “well wtf do you expect with this shower of shit?”. Bayern have obviously agreed with him that his ideas work he did ok at Anderlecht anarl iirc.
McKennas hoping there’s other Bayerns out there. Russel Martin was probably counting on the same.
If McKenna gets a good job of the back of illustrating that he can only gaffer in one style I think we can expect a lot more gun sticking too in the next few PL seasons.
He moved for a wage increase, end of conversation.
Surely that can only be said if he moved to a different Championship club…….that was further away from his home*

* The anti Alec Neil excuse if you will.

My point was, he’d have signed for the Dog and Duck if they had offered enough money.
I’m not blaming him, I’m just sick of hearing that he wanted to prove himself in the Premier League, he moved for the dosh.

Watson has done the same thing it’s cash. Does anyone think he’ll be a regular starter come august in a team as good as Brighton? There’s no chance, but he’ll quadruple his wages, perhaps more than that, and if has to play in the reserves or get loaned out he’ll do that whilst earning serious wedge.

We might not like it but it’s human nature.

This is what I thought - seemed very selfish to me (although I'm sure others would say it was stubborn-headedness).
Either that or he was just plain deluded that he could somehow play that way and get enough points/not get twatted every week.

You’ve got to look after yourself first . If you can succeed at your home club like Steve Gerard, then that’s great . It’s more likely however , that you have to move on to fulfill your ambitions and you can’t really knock a player for doing that .
The likes of Clarke and Watson could do their ACL , lose form and or confidence and never get that chance again ..
The only players I can really knock are those that are young , are already successful and rich , yet still fuck off to Saudi to earn yet more coin.

I think he'd jump at the chance of returning if we went up. Can't imagine we'd have to pay much more than we got for him too, if anything his value has dropped

Steven Gerard is a terrible example here. What if you are a potential England international but your home club is Barrow or Harrogate Town? Nobody would expect a player to be loyal to those sides and turn down the massive wages. Watson has taken the cash and that's fair enough to be honest. Our model is to develop players and move them on for decent money which we have done here. We would not and could not match the wages that Brighton can offer due to their premier league TV cash.

It just shows how much of a game changer it would be for us to get promoted as this would be a completely different conversation.

Kind of agree with that other than the explanation of our model. I don’t think it’s as simple as ‘develop and sell on’. I think it’s develop a keep and if a high offer comes along we’ll take it if it benefits us. Haven’t seen any of our better players put in the shoppe window by KLD. He’s sold them due to the combination of a decent offer and them wanting a move.

We may still be in contention of the top two if he was still here, I like Mundle but Clarke played near enough every minute apart from one small injury last season iirc.

Clarke couldn’t even get off the bench in Ipswich’s crucial game against wolves yesterday. He’s just not good enough for the PL.

He was actually poor after his injury last season. It’ll be interesting to see if he rips the league up again next year with Ipswich.
