Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

He’s currently 2nd choice left wing for us, maybe 3rd if u count le fee. Brighton are a lot better stocked for wingers than we are. Surely he’s well down the pecking order for at least a couple of seasons.
No idea. But there is a reason they have wanted him for so long. If I was a betting man I would say he will be out on loan but I’m sure whatever the plan is Brighton and him will have spoke about it.

Or we could be playing in the championship and he could be playing in the premier league. We don’t know do we. I would guess that the most likely outcome is he ends up on loan in the championship/Europe but who knows

Not the first opportunity like. Also if any young players come to us does the same logic apply? Are they daft/greedy/greedy parents/bad agents and zero loyalty or is that only if they leave us
Depends if they are leaving clubs they dreamed of playing for. Within one year of signing a PRO contract.

They are if they leave with a month less of a promotion chasing season when they are first team players, with the timing suggesting that he was worried about us going up and having a stronger hand in negotiations with Brighton. Really scummy behaviour IMO.

He'll be taking his opportunities in terms of top flight football chances and higher wages. I've said this before but in any other walk of life would people give the lad down the pub grief if he took a higher paying and/or potentially better opportunities job elsewhere, banging on about "loyalty", etc.?

You would think a young lad would give their left testicle to be 2nd in line for playing for their boyhood team no?

So either the club is BSing the fans and 'flipping players' as has been expected by many fans under this administration. Or Mr Watson is to blame.

I defend the club a lot but I just feel we are too stubborn on wages

It’s both

That's fair, tbh I don't have a clue what the players are on or what offers have been made to Watson (and others). I'm not owa the moon when decent prospects leave but I can see it fom their point of view, and don't get the "loyalty" thing when if the club can't or won't match what's on offer to them.

Yes they would give them grief as this kid, that's been here 12 years. Is starting to get opportunities to play for the club that nurtured him and he's a fan! ffs He's going to get minted regardless but he's not even 18!
Now, either the club are to blame (player flipping) or he is. I suspect it's the club, having said what i've said.

Were a selling club and precisely why i hate the leadership. Love the club, but without a dream, were now dogshit and this is evidence many dont want to accept.... I hope Watson gets us back to the prem and a winner in the playoffs, i would wish him well for the future

I see it as he's had a better offer (at least as far as he is concerned) and like ay other career/job you have to make your choices. The club have taken £10m for him and he may make it or he may not at the level they are currently playing, but I don't begrudge him the opportunity. If as @MustardAndOnions has said the club have been too stubborn on wages then that is another issue but I don't blame any footballer (or other professional) for looking after their own interests.

I just think if he's good enough for development at a top 10 PL club then his value should have been a lot more than £10m.

All the traitor / loyalty talk is wrong though, it's a dream move for him and it's our fault if we didn't negotiate a better deal for him.
But it's all potential, and he only had a year left on his contract, which makes £10m hard to turn down for a 2nd choice left winger in the Championship. Someone earlier made a good point, Brighton are doing what we did with Aleksic, buying him before they need him.

He didn't even leave us debt free tbh either.

Still 30m+ of transfer debt even though we sold Pickford and Mannone - presumably that went towards the SBC loan he paid off and had his claws on wasn't it the SoL and AoL till the parachute payments for the first season went to him?

Of course he could have left us in a worse financial position, but I think he done a bit of damage limitation to both his losses at SAFC and his reputation and passed us over to anyone daft enough to take it on.

I thought Mundle was beginning to get a bit one dimensional before his injury but his pace and physique meant he was still an outlet.

Watson appeared to be in good form before injury but IMO has been quite poor since his return.

I'm of the opinion that a few people hadn't really spotted the drop off in Mundle's form prior to his injury as we were both flying and he scored against Luton and was involved in a coupe of goals against someone poor whom I forget (was it derby?) where the reality was teams were beginning to get tighter to him and he didn't have the freedom he had previously - he wasn't getting down the left and was running into bodies when coming inside. He's come back and still been an outlet, as good as he was before injury but people are seemingly judging against his early season form where he was ripping it up.

The scary thing about Mundle is how poor he is retaining possession with his back to the opponents goal, so easily dispossessed.
It’s a big weakness.
Facing the opposition he’s really good and can destroy teams
This.

We don't know the inside details but the narrative is that we wanted to keep him - he wouldn't sign a new contract - we've therefore banked at least £10m for a player who's only played a handful of senior games. Always a shame to lose a local player but this one does feel slightly odd. There was no question that Pickford and Henderson had earned their moves whereas Brighton are buying potential.

He’s 18 he doesn’t know what he wants. He’s been badly advised by people who want money today, at the cost of his long term future.
There is a good chance he will do a Clarke and not break through at Brighton, end up dropping a division to kick start his career and playing for relative peanuts compared to his premier club salary..
This will not happen to Jobe or Rigg

He's jumped that quickly that it's hard to really tell if he going to be missed. At 10m + with a year left its hard to say the club were in the wrong taking the deal, it's just the timing of it that feels just unprofessional from either side you look at it.

At least if we don't go up and clubs come calling for the likes of Neil, Hume, and Cirkin, they can't be labelled as players who've just jumped ship at the first opportunity. You can also tell that if we do manage promotion, some of our most wanted will be happy to stay and will want to play for the club at the top level.

Someone who has 15; games in the championship who looks very raw I'm hardly making a bold prediction in saying he won't get in a team looking for Europe
Should have worded this better, by Europe I meant that club in Belgium that has something to do with Brighton ( assuming they still do) who’s name I can’t remember so was easier writing Europe
