Speculation on here that he's wanted away for a while. Also that he's getting a £1M signing on fee.

Believe that Brighton have given him a four year deal. Gueesing he'll be on c. £15K per week.

He's now guaranteed £4M. Irrespective of form or injury. Made for life - no risk, only upside.

Embo had played plenty more representative games for England at 18 that Tommy has - he's now struggling for a start at bottom club in League Two

Yes it would have been good to maybe have seen him next season just too see how good he was.

I do accept that he only has one career and by moving to Brighton he becomes, I assume, an instant millionaire, but my point still stands about wanting too see more of him.

But best of luck to him. I hope he does well for them.
 
The hard work hasn't even started for the lad. Brighton have taken a punt on a prospect, and he'll go down there in the summer up against much stiffer competition and way down the pecking order. Its hard to see where he gets game time there, and they're bound to strengthen again in the summer with talk of Mitoma leaving for a big fee, so they'll no doubt be looking to spend big on a suitable first team Left winger if that does happen.

It feels like he's tried to fast track a few vital years of his career to chase the PL status and money, but as many young lads find out, they only end up going backwards due to the pressures of being at the highest level and the sheer competition for places around them. Watson has pretty much everything to do to stick out over lads who are already there, and others that will probably come in through the summer.

He's been injured for most of the season and won't sign a new contract. 3 of our current line up are youth team players not including Watson, conservative estimates show they could make they club £50m+ in the transfer market, that's a huge amount for a Championship club.

I don't know about a bad egg. Obviously we couldn't agree a deal that was acceptable for him and we got a decent offer so it makes sense to part ways. He clearly feels its the best career option for him and ultimately its his job and his life.

He obviously won't have his heart in it for us now and won't be as committed, so in my view shouldn't play for us again.

I'm not sure how people are coming to that conclusion. He has two choices:

1) To extend his contract at Sunderland almost certainly play more football and probably progress well here

2) Sign for a premiership club on more money and back himself to break into their team over the next year. he may not but he's backing himself.

Either choice is perfectly reasonable surely?

One thing is clear, by making the move public, he'll not get an easy ride from fans, if he remains in the squad. The timing of the announcement has created unnecessary negativity. Can't believe they thought it was a good idea to go public in April and not the summer....very strange.

By announcing it now the club puts the onus on the lad and everyone gets their pitchforks out.

And Regis himself if he plays him whilst others in need of game time are sat on the bench.

It's just odd that most clubs avoid situations like this by agreeing to keep it quiet until the summer. I don't get who wins here? I mean even Brighton will see him as a development player so it's not big enough news to need to get it out this early.

Have you never left a job for what you felt was a better one somewhere else? It doesn't necessarily mean you hate where you were, or the people there or that you will be disruptive whilst working your notice. It is possible to leave on good terms.

He obviously feels he has a better deal somewhere else and the club have accepted the offer. I am disappointed he is leaving, but as a young lad, it is his career choice and I don't hold that against him.

Negotiations have been going on for ages and he was wanted in January, the deals have been agreed so whilst the timing isn't great, it was all pretty much out in the open anyway, so why try and pretend it isn't happening?
