Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Tbf it’s amazing business- £10m - He’s not even in our first 11 (Roberts and mundle are out first two wingers right?)

When was the last time we sold a reserve player for £10m? Have we ever

Crazy money and we rightly have snapped their hands off.
We never snapped their hands off, and turned down numerous approaches from premier league clubs (inc Brighton) for the lad, we tried to keep him but he wouldn’t sign a new contract so club done right getting a decent fee in the end

Aye we sit 4th with a squad of young talent worth near 100 million
Others coming through the under 21s -in fact 17 year olds paying up three years
Nightmare times at safc !
Think I will bail out after 60 plus years of supporting the heroes 🤣
Never had it so bad
You're wasting your time mate

Its the 'I want it now and I'll stamp my feet till I get it' culture, its rife in society as a whole as well as amongst a large section of our support who absolutely refuse to look at the long term picture.

Agreed - I mean it’s an amazing deal. When was the last time we sold a player for good money that we won’t even miss given he’s hardly played for us.

Cos he’s a little rat, turning his back on his team mates and club in the middle of a promotion push.

His team mates are doing everything they can to get us promoted whilst he’s twerking for another club and turning in half arsed, disinterested performances.
What if the club sold him?

We didn't even snap their hands of when they offered 12 in the window. I think most were shocked we didn't blink 1st and we have tried to tie him down longer on a contract. Can't blame the club one bit over this business and even the lad is entitled to make that choice. He knows he's not 1st choice here ATM and Mundle is still young so his path is blocked by a better player, so he has made the decision to take the extra money to still be not 1st choice.

Brighton won’t be sticking him in the first team next August man. They make their money recruiting cheap, nurturing and selling on and not just players either. Head coaches, coaches, physios, club secretaries, club solicitors, club accountants, translators etc etc. They’re all up for grabs at a cost in Sussex by the sea.
Sounds somewhat familiar.

Finally gets to play for his boyhood club , been here since just out of nappies, and leaves before even reaching 25 games.

I'd have given anything to be good enough to play for the club potentially at the highest level. Not jump leave before you even get started.

If he's refused a new contract then I don't blame the club, we have to get money in one way or another. I just don't get why he'd want to leave already.
£2500 per week or £25,000 per week plus £1m in the bank.
What would you do?
Sunderland set a fee, Brighton agree to pay. We’re a selling club, it’s business

Clubs/ football in general are a bit to blame for that culture as well mind. I remember watching Watson for the 21s a few times and being pleased when he broke into the team and scored etc. It's mint feeling you've watched a player develop. You want a long term approach where he slowly gets more involved in the first team and eventually becomes a star player. We're actually luckier than most in that we've got Neil playing a big role but so often now you watch talented youngsters, hope to see them progress, and a PL side just waves a bit of cash at them and off they fuck. It's not a surprise that many just want instant success, however unrealistic it is, because clubs are seldom allowed to build anything

It’s a good deal for the club
