Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

He has looked good but the step up is massive. This may be better business for us than Brighton
Brighton won’t be sticking him in the first team next August man. They make their money recruiting cheap, nurturing and selling on and not just players either. Head coaches, coaches, physios, club secretaries, club solicitors, club accountants, translators etc etc. They’re all up for grabs at a cost in Sussex by the sea.

Although we will be offering significantly less than Brighton, I do find it very strange that a lad from a Sunderland supporting family, who has been with the club since the age of 6, has so quickly decided to leave.
It took him months to sign a pro deal at 17. He's been itching to get away

Finally gets to play for his boyhood club , been here since just out of nappies, and leaves before even reaching 25 games.

I'd have given anything to be good enough to play for the club potentially at the highest level. Not jump leave before you even get started.

If he's refused a new contract then I don't blame the club, we have to get money in one way or another. I just don't get why he'd want to leave already.

He’s clearly motivated by money and that’s more important to him than playing for his local club.

He’s not going to get many minutes at Brighton, and will probably end up on loan in the championship anyway.

From BBC Sport.

Ex-Sunderland forward Martin Smith says he is disappointed in Tommy Watson's decision to leave but understands the pull of a club like Brighton.

You need to look slightly deeper marra
Think squad harmony -sure the club didn’t ideally want to announce this but sometimes it makes total sense

And what total sense has been achieved in making it public exactly???

I'm sure the players at the club knew Watson would have been off, I'm not sure how that plays into squad harmony?

What makes sense is to tell the lad he's got his move and it'll be announced in the summer, when the season is over, not whilst there's still such an important part of the season to come.

It's a rank amateur PR stunt.

He’s still making squads mate, it’s not as if he’s been put on gardening leave for kicking up a fuss behind the scenes. This is just strange, we’d all be saying it if other teams in the playoffs announced they’d sold a first team players. The timing is just bad.

If this is sooooo common, then maybe you can give me examples of when other clubs have made it public Knowledge that they've sold a player in April?

Sounds like your just sticking up for the club, which is your choice at the end of the day, but this little drama could have just been avoided full stop if they'd have just done what every club in footy does and wait until the window opens to make it official. There's going to be a cloud over the lads head now, that really didn't need to be there.
Chelsea have announced 2 or 3 signings for the summer already mind

I don't disagree with your point, but I think it's far from guaranteed that he'll make it in the PL, he's miles from being good enough at the minute. He has time on his side obviously, but it could turn out to be a good deal for us.
Very true, what they are paying for is potential, pay peanuts for him now could be worth treble in a couple of years , if we were in the prem we wouldn’t even entertain this deal, look at dybling 100m they are asking for him. It’s thinking like a bog standard championship team that sells therur best youth to the prem , see qpr eze, Millwall esse now us, sad state of affairs.

It’s more the amount for me than anything we never seem to get top dollar.
