How did Cardiff’s goal stand ?

If the problem identified as: "Patto is not improving" I'd suggest the answer shouldn't be "drop Patto", but rather: "improve coaching".

I think the nature of the game today is everybody expects a free kick as soon as the keeper goes down. It’s telling if a referee doesn’t give it.
Yeah that the ref got it wrong. A lot of those free kicks are for legitimate attempts to play the ball unlike yesterday. I'm all for the attacker jumping and trying to head the ball but leading with the arm and crashing into the keepers arms just at they are about to get the ball is a foul. Same as kicking or grabbing the legs of a outfield player just as they were about to kick the ball.

Maybe needs to be punching those away instead of trying to catch....I dunno though as not a coach

Agreed

Question is does he have the ability to improve through coaching or has he reached his level?
That could also be the correct conclusion, but only if supported by the evidence of improved coaching, such as extra hours spent on his weak areas,or, if needed, hiring a specialist coach, etc...
edit: it's cheaper than ditching a £12M rated player

It's likely a foul but also poor keeping. He's a good shot stopper though generally

The thing about intelligent people is they can change their mind when presented with new evidence. Noone is saying you were stupid to think it wasn't a foul in real time. Which is the only view the ref gets
Thing is, I’m not sure I’ve actually said it wasn’t a foul. I’ve said i didn’t think he was getting it anyway. He fucked up & with or without the Cardiff players challenge; he’s on the edge of the six yard box with the ball behind him. Again.

I should also add hjelde is poor there turning his back into the attacker rather than actually trying to challenge for the header

Not sure why anyone is having a go at you for this tbh.

It’s a bad call whether it’s a foul or not. I’m not sure it’s as blatant a foul as others do anyway.

He’s a brilliant shot stopper but there’s still plenty work to be done in terms of how he commands his box imo.

He’s absolutely nowhere near it like which is the biggest issue for me. I’ve seen it again several times from the main camera angle and he’s completely misjudged it.

I think people are getting a bit defensive over him at the minute. The discontent from the stands yesterday wasn’t productive. But I think even the most ardent Patterson fan would agree his mistakes recently aren’t good enough.

As I’ve already mentioned, his save in the second half was top class & was just as important as the goal. Go 2-1 down there & it’s a struggle.

It was 100% a foul.

I was critical of Patterson earlier, but after seeing clear replay on ITV, the defender put his arm across him like the other lad said, there was nothing Patterson could have done.
Definitely a foul. I’m not a particular fan of Patterson’s but the lad fouled him. He challenged for he ball with his arm and forearm clashed with Patterson

Ah yeah. I've got you confused with someone else.

In which case your referee point is wrong. You've no idea what the referee thought other than he thought it wasn't a foul

Watching the clip above makes it clear as day it's a foul. It was missed by the ref which happens. The strikers arm hits Patto's left arm near his shoulder which is what makes it look like he's misjudged it, without that contact his left hand is directly in the flight of the ball.

What I don't understand is that once people have seen the above clip, they continue to blame Patto. Yeah he's made a few mistakes recently, players do, but yesterday's 'error' was clearly caused by the strikers contact, cut him a bit of slack, whether the ref saw it as a foul or not is a different issue. The replay shows he was impeded clearly, to dispute that is just ignoring the clear evidence in front of you. That I can't comprehend from a fanbase.
