Craft Beer

Tell yer what, it’s nice. Definitely not my normal sort of beer, but it dies it well enough if drink it again.

I’ll say again, I often wonder if I’m being biased cos they’re local, but the majority of beers I have are consistently great.

I try to be impartial but they're consistently good. If they brewed a stinker I'd say. Unlike some on here who have never ever had a bad pint ever. Or been in a pub where the service was poor. Or stunk.

Last time in it was basically a bottle/can shop with a couple of beers on. Now it's got 6 taps on and has extended.

Can't always be on the 10% stouts. It's tremendous, mad how punchy and tasty it is for under 4%. Probably why it gets so many accolades.

Not arsed about vodka I must say. I find it tasteless, in the main, and i reckon its why people have it with a mixer. Whisky, brandy or tequila, neat, for me Aj lad.

Had a few hours in here too, working my way through their beers. The black IPA is great.

Yesterday I was amongst a few in here. You can sup inside from 2pm.
Is that distillery pub the good sport in Grasmere? Has it been done out? We usually stay in hotel over the road. Going there in a few weeks.

Dunno about its past or if its had a rename etc. Just know it's called The Distillers Arms.

Edit. Just had a nosey on Google. Appears to be the same address.

I think they’re consistently good but, for me, they’re not often any more than that.

The current versions of HSOC, Freddys and Black Wave are as good a core range as many other, more established, breweries IMHO. The recent export stout was as good a 6% cask stout as I've had as well.

They maybe need to strike out a bit more in terms of different releases, but that may come in time now they've moved to the bigger premises, got more brewers in and got the BHV up and running.

I'll be honest I'm happy with them doing what they're doing in core and putting a fresh one out every few weeks, be it an IPA or a decent stout. It's nice to see their beers in bars around here that would maybe have had Neck Oil or Camden Pale in otherwise.

You didn’t say hello though?!

I am git tall & manly like

Where were you sitting? Was a lot quieter than I expected.
Ha. I only saw you as you were leaving.

Was in the back corner of the side room. Was dead like which isn't like that time on a Friday in there.

Ah aye, think there were three of you.

Aye, I don’t often get in there at that time, but managed to swindle my way in with the excuse of bait before the empire & stuff. Last time we were in it was rammed in that room.

As most on the thread will know, I’ve pretty much drunk their stuff since day one. From the gypsy brewing pre tap room days, then a regular since the tap room opened, now hardly ever out of the bridge on a weekend.

In that time I’ve seen their beers steadily improve as the brewing staff, kit, and ultimately brewery improved. Nothing earth shattering, but a very good offering, and steady progress. Something a keen craft beer fan would enjoy.

For me, they now have a great core range, and it’s now very consistent. They’re building a very good brand. Moving forward (my opinion based on observation) the focus of late has been on sustainable growth, and building strong local relationships - with the coup of the football club contract being very notable.

For me, with the pub they’re now in the premier league, and are building the reputation and resources to have a crack at the top six. Krush and the new Decent days is their first new beers for a while, and the latter is a revelation.

Can’t wait to see what comes next in their development

Few I’m still yet to try. Decent Days & Nights, the bitter. Think there’s a new pale knocking about too. I’ll be in the pub shortly & will stick to the ones missing off my list.

Some of those are cask offerings (just saying as I know you only really like stouts and porters on cask).

Aye, anar. The bitter will be ok. Prefer pales & ipas to be a bit livelier like, but wouldn’t not try if it was on cask.

We need to start a petition to bring Monk St Brown back. Banger that.

Know who you mean but that wasn't me. I might have been on my tod when you left waiting for the Mrs to turn up, can't remember.
