Without wanting to make this political, it's one of the unseen consequences of the Brexit vote. Smaller American touring bands are now faced with huge tariffs if they want to do a UK/European tour and so are now forced to chose between one and the other. UK venues lose out. Similarly, young European bands are avoiding coming here because it's just not profitable anymore. UK venues lose out. Those venues then struggle to support a local scene and that scene dies with the venue. Subsequently, there were only 12 cities used for national tours in 2024 as compared to 28 cities in 1994. People still want to go to gigs, as we see from the massive amounts of arena and stadium gigs, but they are losing (and more importantly, young bands) access to smaller, local, grassroots venues. The talent pipeline is being stifled at the source and I can no longer see where the big UK bands of the future are going to learn their trade.
